4 RB battles and how they affect fantasy

Last year, Tevin Coleman was named the starter of the Atlanta Falcons. Matt Forte was supposedly going to get phased out of the Bears offense. Chris Johnson was ahead of David Johnson on the Cardinals depth chart.

How did all that work out?

Every year, depth charts are set and broken. In the case of Coleman, he got hurt and Devonta Freeman was so good they couldn’t pull him. The rumors about Forte’s “great decline” were grossly exaggerated. David Johnson simply produced and went well above expectations.

Here are four running back position battles that could yield next year’s Freeman, Johnson or Forte.

Jacksonville Jaguars: T.J. Yeldon vs. Chris Ivory

Recently, Chris Ivory has become a bit of a hot take factory. Some are saying that there will be a 55/45 workload split with T.J. Yeldon.

Last season with the New York Jets, Chris Ivory carried the ball 247 times for 1,070 yards and seven touchdowns. He also caught 30 passes for 217 yards and another touchdown. You have to give credit where credit was due — Ivory outplayed his ADP last season, by a lot. But there are some negatives to the newly signed back. For instance, he’s only played 16 games in one of his six seasons. Before 2015, he never went over 850 rushing yards or 20 catches.
