Eagles and Patriots will set the Week 13 pace

Welcome to Snaps, Pace, and Stats, which examines trends in snap totals and no-huddle usage. This year I’ll be looking at individual players on Fridays in Advanced Matchup Plays, and it will appear both here and on RotoGrinders. Before that, however, it is helpful to take a 30,000-foot view of the upcoming games, in the hope of finding out which ones will be played on fertile fantasy soil.

Rank Week 12 Snaps 2015 Snaps/Game Opponent Wk 12 Snps 2015 Opp Snps/Gm
1 Denver (77) Houston (72.1) New England (77) Philadelphia (69.5)
2 Pittsburgh (75) Philadelphia (69.7) Seattle (75) Miami (68.9)
3 Green Bay (73) San Diego (68.8) Chicago (73) N.Y. Giants (68.5)
4 N.Y. Jets (72) New Orleans (68.4) Miami (72) Oakland (68.3)
5 IND / SD / STL (71) Atlanta (68.3) CIN / JAX / TB (71) Jacksonville (68.2)

Philadelphia at New England

The Patriots run the 10th-most plays per game (66.2) and the ninth-most during the past month (66.8), even as their injury-riddled offense has shed key contributors. The Eagles lead the league in snaps-allowed, and over the past four games, have given up the second-most plays (69.8) and points (34.3) on average. New England’s no-huddle ground to a halt weeks ago when their offensive line began breaking down (more on that in No-Huddle Notes), but they still rank fourth in seconds-per-snap (26.9).

The Eagles are second in snaps-per-game, both for the season (69.7) and over the last four weeks (72.5). The Patriots allow the ninth-most plays per game (66.4), a figure that’s risen during the past month (67.8; seventh-most). Lead (or co-lead) running backs have averaged 5.2 yards per carry and scored four rushing touchdowns against New England in their last two games. That would be a red flag for overall play volume if not for Philadelphia’s league-leading pace (22.4 seconds per snap) and no-huddle rate (70.7 percent).
