Falcons add LB Duke Riley in 3rd round

  • With the 11th pick of the third round (75th overall), the Falcons selected LB Duke Riley from LSU.
  • Riley profiles as a strong coverage linebacker in Atlanta’s athletic defense; he allowed just 0.42 yards per snap in coverage last season, the second-best of any SEC inside linebacker.
  • Riley did not become a starter until last season, but he earned positive grades for both run defense and pass coverage.
  • Mike Jones

so basically the falcons plan for getting over the top is creating a team of only malnourished linebackers….sounds promising

    • DAVID FLYNN

He is 6 foot 232 he would fucking murder you. Stupid uneducated bitch.

      • Mike Jones

and if i was an nfl player that would be a great point…….but

        • DAVID FLYNN

He is bigger then dion jones who was up for rookie of the year

          • Mike Jones

yes drafting 2 undersized linebackers last year and then 2 more this year with their first 2 picks to go on top of beasley and whatever hybrid linebacker role ishmael is playing is kind of my point here

          • DAVID FLYNN

The Falcons and their undersized LBs went to the super bowl shut Tom Brady down for a half and almost won. I think DQ a super bowl winning coach knows more then you.

          • Mike Jones

and again…person who cant seem to discuss anything without getting emotional and should probably go invest in some tampons and ice cream…drafting 2 undersized linebackers that proved they could start on a team that went to the superbowl and then with your 2 top picks doing the same thing in the next years draft and converting a safety into one as well when there are other clear needs on the team is nonsense

          • DAVID FLYNN

and again a person who can’t use common sense. First off why don’t you stop gargling your boy friends cock and pick your head up. They drafted a DE in the first round. Also what needs on their team they went to the super bowl and had one of the best offenses of all time. I would call you a retard but that’s just offensive to retards.

          • Mike Jones

literally all you can do is throw insults around youre going on a half dozen replies without even offering a basic reason as to why drafting this many of the same player 2 years in a row when there are glaring needs the average pop warner kid could point out is anything but ridiculous….youre just the typical idiot fan who knows nothing about the game other than what clips you see on sportscenter and claims every decision made in the nfl is made by geniuses even though most of the teams suck every year and people called gurus yesterday are fired for their incompetence tomorrow regularly

          • Andre Taylor

Mike as a former D1 college football player, the NFL is all about creating mismatches. Teams want to get their fast or oversized WR, or TE matched up against a big, slow LB. First and foremost De’Vondre Campbell isnt undersized, he is 6ft 4 245lbs, with 4.55 speed. MLB Deion Jones is a bit undersized, however that didn’t stop him from having an excellent 2016 season. This year’s 2nd round pick Duke Riley is actually bigger than HOF MLB Ray Lewis was coming out of college, Lewis came out at 6ft 1, 225lbs. Whereas Riley is 6ft 2 , 235lbs, with excellent speed, running a 4.56 at the combine and his pro-day. However so is ALL-PRO MLB Bobby Wagner, of which HC Dan Quinn models his defense after. Which is the 4-3, cover 3 that the Seatte runs, and excells at. With Devondre Campbell plays the K.J. Wright role. With MLB Deion Jones in the role of MLB Bobby Wagner. Whereas as Seattle only has 2 good LB’s, yets with the addition of MLB Duke RIley Jones adds more speed

          • Mike Jones

and in a vacuum the picks are fine as ive been saying this entire time the issue is the glaring needs the falcons do have as opposed to adding more players to an already set position especially with ishmael supposedly playing as a linebacker hybrid on top of it all….this is beyond building a seattle defense they are building a 4-4 defense for a college season in the 1950s

          • Andre Taylor

Please enlighten me Mike, what major needs do the Falcon have that they overlooked? Nothing you said made any sense, in or out of a vacuum. They had little to no quality depth behind the starts at the LB position, that is why 2 rookies ended up starting last year. Former ILB Paul Worrilow signed with the Lions, and both veteran LB’s Philip Wheeler, and Sean Weatherspoon were both UFA who the Falcons didn’t resign. So the selection of Riley was as much of a need, as it was a good scheme fit. So how exactly were the Falcons set at the LB position? I actually enjoy a good sports debate, but at least know what your talking about. Verses just making outrageous statement, using high vocabulary phases to sound as if you know what your talking about.

          • Mike Jones

and those rookies worked out perfectly lol….we have reynolds an ishmael which makes 4 and it would have been easy to add depth in a later round if they felt the need…as far as their needs obviously o-line with chester retiring, ricardo allen is a bum at fs or even another pass rush threat seeing as they are up to only 2 at the moment assuming mckinley even works out….but do me a favor and dont even bother responding ive had my fill of “debating” idiots on this article telling me why im wrong when you likely dont even follow the falcons seeing as you have to ask what the team needs are in the first place….take care and have a nice day

          • Andre Taylor

You are so sad! Im not the only one on here that you have argued with, anyone that doesn’t agree with your idiotic way of thinking you get mad and start with the name calling and slick mouth. They drafted Sean Harlow to come in and compete for the RG position, this years O-line class was the weakest its been in years. You keep referring to Ishmeal and Reynolds as if they are house hold names, neither were able to beat out both rookies last year, and have shown absolutely nothing more than they can come in for sub-packages and contribute on special teams. So after the 3 starters, the only depth would have been those 2 nobody’s. I follow the Falcons and the entire NFL, your the moron that probably never played anything more than Madden Football and all of a sudden your a GM. Man please, im not into all that name calling. Im a grown man, so either you want to meet face to face and square up, or shut the hell up and stop acting as if you know what the hell your talking about. Your idiotic post show that you clearly dont!.

          • Mike Jones

i get mad lol read through the comments i started off perfectly nice with both of you and both of you were insulting me from the very start….youre two delusional peas in a pod

      • Andre Taylor

Bro there is no point in trying to have an intelligent conversation with that guy, the fun of exchanging ideas on sports sites is to get an idea of how others see a team, a player, or whatever. But when you have some guy that pretends he knows everything, and ends up arguing with several different people. Then you know that its not everyone else, its clearly him. Not that we all have to agree on everything, but for this clown to make condescending, slick mouthed comments, or start name calling is where i draw the line. This is suppose to be fun, if he wants to take it there then lets meet face to face and knuckle up. Save all the rapping for an album.
