For the past few months in the 32 Teams, 32 Observations, I've looked at the positive side of things. We’ve seen players who have improved, players deserving of their first Pro Bowl, and those who made my own All-Pro Team. There are some numbers, though, that you just don’t want to see. But, want to or not, each side of the coin must be considered in order to find reasonable explanations for how each player's–and each team's–season has gone.
Here are 32 numbers that teams need to do something about.
AFC EAST
Buffalo Bills: Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has been one of the least accurate quarterback on deep passes. He has just 14 completions on 52 attempts, and an accuracy percentage of 28.8%.
Miami Dolphins: Inside linebacker Kevin Burnett has allowed 558 receiving yards, which is the most for any inside linebacker, and more than most of the Miami cornerbacks.
New England Patriots: Running back Danny Woodhead has a Yards Per Pass Route Run of 0.79, which is the second-lowest among running backs.
New York Jets: Kicker Nick Folk has had 76.7% of his kickoffs returned, which is the highest rate for kickers who have played at least three games.
AFC NORTH
Baltimore Ravens: While Ray Rice is known as one of the better running backs in the league, he has also been one of the least elusive. His Elusive Rating is currently 11.7, the third-lowest.
Cincinnati Bengals: Wide receiver Andre Caldwell has just 8.6 yards per catch, which is the lowest for receivers with at least 50 targets.
Cleveland Browns: No wide receiver has dropped as many passes as rookie Greg Little with 14.
Pittsburgh Steelers: Defensive end Ziggy Hood has rushed the quarterback 426 times this season, and has yet to have a sack. He only has four hits and eight pressures, which equates to a pressure every 35 pass rushes.
AFC SOUTH
Houston Texans: Left guard Wade Smith has a run block rating of -16.4, which is the lowest for all left guards.
Indianapolis Colts: Middle linebacker Pat Angerer has 17 missed tackles, which is more than any other player in the front seven.
Jacksonville Jaguars: No player has allowed more sacks this year than right tackle Guy Whimper with 13, that's nearly a sack allowed per game.
Tennessee Titans: The Titans have just one player with a pass rush rating of +1.0 or better (Karl Klug). Last year they had eight.
AFC WEST
Denver Broncos: Kicker Matt Prater has made only 72.7% of his field goals, which is the lowest rate for kickers who have played the whole season.
Kansas City Chiefs: Backup defensive linemen Allen Bailey and Wallace Gilberry have a combined 580 snaps, but just seven combined stops.
Oakland Raiders: Leading all defensive tackles in penalties is Richard Seymour with 10 accepted and one declined. In second place is Tommy Kelly with nine accepted and one declined.
San Diego Chargers: No Charger has rushed the passer more than defensive linemen Vaughn Martin with 275 pass rushes. He has yet to come up with a sack, and has just seven overall pressures.
NFC EAST
Dallas Cowboys: While DeMarcus Ware is one of the best pass rushers in the league, he also has his flaws. He’s had nine penalties called on him that have been accepted, which is the most by any linebacker.
New York Giants: Safety Antrel Rolle has allowed 574 receiving yards, which is 70 more than any other safety.
Philadelphia Eagles: Center Jason Kelce has allowed 30 overall pressures this year. The next highest by a center is 20.
Washington Redskins: The Redskins have 22 players that have played a snap for them on offense and have a negative run block rating. They only have three players with positive run block ratings, including fullback Michael Sellers who has played just 35 snaps.
NFC NORTH
Chicago Bears: Offensive tackle Lance Louis has a Pass Blocking Efficiency of 91.2, which is the third-lowest amongst offensive tackles.
Detroit Lions: While Justin Durant has been an upgrade in the run game, he has allowed 25 of 26 balls thrown his way to be caught for a catch rate of 96.2. This is the highest for 4-3 outside lienbackers.
Green Bay Packers: Aaron Rodgers has had 40 of his passes dropped, tied for the most in the league.
Minnesota Vikings: Wide Receiver Devin Aromashodu has the lowest catch rate among players with at least 30 targets (31.8%).
NFC SOUTH
Atlanta Falcons: Running back Jason Snelling has averaged just 2.9 yards per carry, the lowest for backs who have played 25% of their team's snaps.
Carolina Panthers: Safeties Charles Godfrey and Sherrod Martin rank third and fourth, respectively, in terms of missed tackles with 16 and 15, respectively.
New Orleans Saints: Linebacker Scott Shanle has rushed the quarterback 147 times this year, but has only had one sack and seven pressures.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: The Buccaneers have the cornerback who has missed the most tackles (Ronde Barber, 21) as well as the safety with the most missed tackles (Tanard Jackson, 20).
NFC WEST
Arizona Cardinals: Wide receiver Andre Roberts has a Yards Per Pass Route Run of 0.95, the lowest of receivers who have played 25% of snaps.
St Louis Rams: No quarterback has thrown the ball while being hit more than Sam Bradford at 12. The next highest is seven.
San Francisco 49ers: Running back Frank Gore has 16 catches and 7 drops. His drop rate of 30.43 is twice as high as the next-worst running back in that category.
Seattle Seahawks: While our ratings aren’t meant to be compared from one position to another, you can still get some very general ideas by doing so. The Seahawk with the best run block rating is Jarriel King at +1.0. He has played just five snaps this season. The second highest is Tarvaris Jackson at +0.5.
