Notes

  • The Raiders have looked to address the wide receiver position since we last looked at their depth chart, with the team signing Michael Crabtree and drafting Amari Cooper. Cooper comes into the league as the most complete receiver from the 2014 class, and has the skill set to contribute immediately. Crabtree moves across the Bay after a disappointing past two seasons. It’s a signing which only really pays off if he can recapture his 2012 form, but if he can, they’ll have gotten themselves a steal.
  • The signing of Rodney Hudson at center solidifies an offensive line which looks pretty good from center to left tackle, with Hudson, Gabe Jackson and Donald Penn all playing well enough to be considered better than average. Austin Howard is a solid right tackle, with the only concern coming from Khalif Barnes at right guard. Barnes played both right tackle and left guard in 2014 but struggled heavily at both spots, finishing the year with a negative grade in pass protection and as a run blocker.
  • The Raiders are really looking for someone to step up in that secondary. Several players are solid enough starters that they shouldn’t cause them problems, but they really lack a difference maker there. There are also big question marks at the position when it comes to depth, and we don’t really know enough about almost all of the players behind the starters.
  • The linebackers are an interesting mix here, with Khalil Mack the standout after an incredible rookie campaign. He’s already set himself up as one of the better defensive players in the NFL, with his work against the run standing out above all. At middle linebacker they had to find an upgrade for Miles Burris, but we question how much of an upgrade Curtis Lofton actually is for them, with his own struggles in recent years.

  • SuperRaider

secondary is a HUGE question mark

    • Chris

Pretty much resembles the Pats minus McCourty

      • SuperRaider

        plus Brady and Gronk

        • Chris

I meant the lack of proven, quality corners.

      • Dalen Erickson

I think they are a little better off at CB than the Pats but the Pats are great at safety. McCourty of course is one of the best in the game but CHung played very well last year too. The two backup safeties Wilson and Harmon are very talented as well. Logan Ryan is the only proven quality CB on the Pats. I think Hayden and Carrie will both be pretty good for the Raiders

        • Chris

Saw that they’re debating moving McCourty back to corner this year thanks to all the depth they have at safety and the total lack of talent they have at corner.

          • Dalen Erickson

I saw that as well. It doesnt look like Dev is very pleased about that though. I think its a difficult move to make when he is top 3 at the position. They will have to get creative one way or another to continue to be successful. Of that there is little doubt

  • Anthony

How is Roy Helu rated as below average? He’s at least average by your own ratings. lol

  • Anthony

Helu is average and Stacy McGee, Mychal Rivera are Poor.

  • felipeMTC

Clive Walford, for what has been spread around, is the #1 at the TE position, with Rivera as #2.

Also, Rod Streater is ahead of Butler at the Depth Chart, at least right now he is.

    • Dalen Erickson

Absolutely. As I said above, he MIGHT be the best receiver on this team (completely dependent on how Cooper performs as a rookie). I expect big things from Streater this year

  • Bob

Didn’t Hudson grade out as a top 5 center last season? Surely that warrants at least a “High Quality” designation. I would have rated Penn more highly as well, though that one is a bit more understandable since his run blocking was merely okay.

  • JeremyG

SS and FS are mixed up

Overall I gotta say I agree with the bulk of this. Feel Dan Williams and Hudson should be rated higher but very fair in general.

  • SuperRaider

Lofton is not a poor quality starter, he had to play with the crappy NE defense LY

    • Real rAIDER FAN 0-16

he suck ass man wth are taking about. He is awful pursuit angles on ball-carriers.

      • SuperRaider

he isn’t a red, maybe an orange

        • Real rAIDER FAN 0-16

sorry, just a little rant. I mean I want this team to at least be 500, but we’ll see this season.

    • Dalen Erickson

Nobody missed more tackles in all of football the last two years I believe. His true value is his veteran leadership and ability to read defense more so than as a player

      • SuperRaider

as long as he can teach our rookie LB’s Ben Heeney and Neiron Ball

        • Dalen Erickson

          THAT he will do

  • Dalen Erickson

Below average for Carr? Im shocked to see that. When you consider the lack of great weapons, a non existent run game, and a bottom 5 O-line I think he was amazing. I expect him to be a top 10 QB in 2 or 3 years

    • Jacob B.

it is a fair assessment of the product that was on the field though, and that is all you can base it on. I would say, considering how they graded him, below average is generous, knowing just how bad the skill players he was working with were.

      • Dalen Erickson

I suppose that is fair. I just think he did very well with what he had. Especially considering where he was drafted but your right, we can only go on the data we have. Can you see where Im coming from though?

  • Dalen Erickson

Rod Streater is very underrated. I think he might be the best receiver on this team, of course depending on how well Amari Cooper performs as a rookie

  • theowl

You fellows sure gave Crabtree and Woodson passes for a terrible last year.

  • Alfredo Cota

Hudson was the 3rd highest rated C last year, why is he just “Good”?

  • BlueMarvel

    Ultra Fail
