WR/CB Matchups – Week 7

julioEvery week there are a few matchups that catch my attention. I use PFF’s advanced statistics to give an in-depth look at possible fantasy starters and duds. This week I focus on four matchups that I think could provide interesting results. There is another elite matchup this week (maybe not on the level of Dez Bryant vs. Richard Sherman) that I am excited to breakdown.

Julio Jones vs. Jimmy Smith

For the second straight week Julio Jones makes my matchup article. Last week I begged you to start Jones and he was somewhat disappointing. It doesn’t get any easier this week where he will be lined up against Jimmy Smith most of the game. Jones is one target behind Jordy Nelson (who will make an appearance later in the article) for the league lead. Quarterback Matt Ryan is throwing to him early and often and that likely won’t change this week.

Jimmy Smith is well known and respected by game charters, but he doesn’t seem to get much press. Smith has been great this year allowing just 135 yards on 34 targets. He has yet to allow a TD and quarterbacks have a 50.5 rating while targeting him.

Bottom Line: Start Julio Jones. I don’t care who he is facing up against; start Julio Jones. Sure Jimmy Smith has been great this year, but in todays NFL good offense beats good defense. Jones will see plenty of targets so Smith better be ready. I’m going all-in on Jones this week and predicting he catches eight passes and hauls in a touchdown.
