I had pretty good success this week in my matchup article. I suggested the benching of two 1,000 yard receivers and neither had good games. I also predicted a big game for a receiver that took a long time to get going, but ended the game with solid numbers. I dive into each matchup in depth to see why I was right or wrong.
DeAndre Hopkins vs. DeMetrius McCray
My key points: Despite DeAndre Hopkins already eclipsing the 1,000 yard mark, I suggested you bench him against the Jaguars defense. Hopkins was coming off the game of his life and looked poised for another big week. DeMetrius McCray is completely unknown but has been great lately. I had confidence the McCray and the Jaguars defense would shut down the young star.
Hopefully you listened to my advice on Hopkins this week. Hopkins was totally stifled in this game. He was only targeted six times which he turned into four catches for 49 yards. Hopkins had at least eight targets in six straight games before Sunday. The Jaguars cornerbacks held Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins to a total of 66 yards on eight catches. If you just look at the Jaguars record you would think this is a hopeless team. The truth is they have many pieces on both sides of the ball that could make them dangerous in 2015/2016.
Another great game for McCray logged in the books. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick completed just two passes while targeting McCray for 21 yards. McCray has now started nine games and has yet to allow more than three catches or 32 yards. Since he got put into the starting lineup he is allowing just 14 yards per game. If he finishes the season strong, he should be considered for the Pro Bowl.
