Week 1 CFB contrarian DFS picks

College football is back. The bands, the crowds, the dream of what could be. Lee Corso’s goofy mascot schtick, the pre-game signs, Kirk Herbstreit’s questionable enthusiasm and Desmond Howard’s goofy laugh – they’re all back.

With the start of a new season comes the promise of new beginnings. Maybe last year we put too much faith in O.J. Howard or Christian Hackenberg, but this year we get a fresh start and a chance to make amends with the fantasy football gods.

Each week, I’ll bring you a handful of some of my favorite and least favorite plays this week with an emphasis on the daily fantasy sports (DFS) format. As the title of this column suggests, these picks won’t be the obvious choices every time. There is a reason Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott will be one of the highest-priced running backs each week, but you won’t find his name in this column.
