Waiver Wire – Week 7

Isaiah CrowellEvery Tuesday I will be bringing you the NFL players who have somehow flown under the fantasy radar and are owned in far too few leagues given their production and/or ceiling. Injuries and byes are inevitable, too.

Here are some players that are on quite a few waiver wires out there that simply shouldn’t be.

Quarterbacks

Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens (Yahoo 50% owned; ESPN 36.0%) – 3%FAAB

“Manning is among the worst deep ball quarterbacks in the NFL and typically tries to hide this deficiency by not taking many shots, thus limiting the upside of Beckham.”

Kyle where does this opinion come from? From 2007-2013 Eli’s deep ball attempts ranked 6th, 7th, 9th, 3rd, 1st, 11th, and 8th in the league while totaling 53 TDs to 33 INTs. Gilbride’s offensive philosophy was to attack vertically on long developing patterns (which led to his horrific INT numbers last year when the line fell apart and his weapons were lacking).

The west coast scheme he’s in now does limit his shots down-field (18th in deep ball attempts) but this is the first time since 07 he wasn’t in the upper 3rd of QB’s with the deep ball.

Thanks for the read. The Eli comment came more based on this season and the style of offense that has seemed to lead to a nice little bounce back to Fantasy relevance. Currently 26th in long ball accuracy and 22nd in deep ball percentage. He’s had a nice season thus far, but it hasn’t been due to his ability to stretch defenses IMO
