Every Tuesday I will be bringing you the NFL players who have somehow flown under the fantasy radar and are owned in far too few leagues given their production and/or ceiling. Injuries and byes are inevitable, too.
With the first game of the week a mere 48 hours away, here are some players that are on quite a few waiver wires out there that simply shouldn’t be.
Quarterback
Jason Campbell, Cleveland Browns (Yahoo 10% owned; ESPN 5%) – 11% FAAB
With a second consecutive 35 attempt, 280 total yard, multiple touchdown, and no turnover game, Campbell has been rock solid sense taking over the starting QB gig. Not a single team in the NFL has thrown the ball more this season than the Browns (23 more attempts than any other team), giving Campbell fantasy value by volume even if you’re not buying him as a talented NFL quarterback. If you start Tony Romo, Russell Wilson, or Andy Dalton, Campbell is a great bye week replacement in the coming weeks. Should Aaron Rodgers miss significant time or Jay Cutler experience a setback, I prefer Campbell as a fantasy option to the respective backups.
Nick Foles, Philadelphia Eagles (Yahoo 27% owned; ESPN 10.4%) – 9% FAAB
Well that was a productive afternoon that affected very few fantasy rosters. His seven touchdown tosses tied the all time record, a performance that will certainly go down as one of the most unpredictable of all time. While the hall of fame stat line is flucky and the Eagles have yet to officially label Foles as their long term starter, this start has to at least extend his leash, a sense that typically helps a quarterback. Fantasy owners have always been hesitant to buy into Foles because he doesn’t offer the same upside as Mike Vick, but with an 11.4 aDOT last week (third highest in the NFL) and a completion percentage north of 70% for the second time in three starts, Foles is looking more and more like a reasonable QB2.
