Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 10

ravens-buccaneers-football-marlon-brown-branden-smith_pg_600Every Tuesday I will be bringing you the NFL players who have somehow flown under the fantasy radar and are owned in far too few leagues given their production and/or ceiling. Injuries and byes are inevitable, too.

With the first game of the week a mere 48 hours away, here are some players that are on quite a few waiver wires out there that simply shouldn’t be.

Quarterback

Jason Campbell, Cleveland Browns (Yahoo 10% owned; ESPN 5%) – 11% FAAB

With a second consecutive 35 attempt, 280 total yard, multiple touchdown, and no turnover game, Campbell has been rock solid sense taking over the starting QB gig. Not a single team in the NFL has thrown the ball more this season than the Browns (23 more attempts than any other team), giving Campbell fantasy value by volume even if you’re not buying him as a talented NFL quarterback. If you start Tony Romo, Russell Wilson, or Andy Dalton, Campbell is a great bye week replacement in the coming weeks. Should Aaron Rodgers miss significant time or Jay Cutler experience a setback, I prefer Campbell as a fantasy option to the respective backups.

Nick Foles, Philadelphia Eagles (Yahoo 27% owned; ESPN 10.4%) – 9% FAAB

Well that was a productive afternoon that affected very few fantasy rosters. His seven touchdown tosses tied the all time record, a performance that will certainly go down as one of the most unpredictable of all time. While the hall of fame stat line is flucky and the Eagles have yet to officially label Foles as their long term starter, this start has to at least extend his leash, a sense that typically helps a quarterback. Fantasy owners have always been hesitant to buy into Foles because he doesn’t offer the same upside as Mike Vick, but with an 11.4 aDOT last week (third highest in the NFL) and a completion percentage north of 70% for the second time in three starts, Foles is looking more and more like a reasonable QB2.

I’m thinking about doing something REALLY ballsy to turn my season around. I can get Marlon Brown & Greg Little. They are both available. I just picked up Mike Brown in Jacksonville now that Justin Blackmon’s season is done? Brown is expected to play every snap as the No. 2 wideout. I’m in a PPR & I’ve got CRAPPY WRs in the form of Anquan Boldin, Dwayne Bowe, DeAndre Hopkins & just snatched up Reuben Randle (dropped Heyward-Bey) & just got Mike Brown 4-49, 5-120 & 3-43 1TD over last 3 weeks looks really good compared to my duds. I have A. Luck, AP, R. Bush, Mike James, Joque Bell, T. Gonzalas, but lost Reggie Wayne. My IDPs are good, but NEED WRs to get back in it. I’m 8th out of 12 with a 4-5 record and need “swing for the fences” TD WRs or crazy catch ppr possession guys. I like my Randle pickup as he can score anytime (your opinion on him?). I’m trying to trade Mike James for Vic Cruz as we speak to an owner who has DeAngelo W. & James Starks as his starting RBs & has only won 2 games this year. I doubt he’ll go for it.

If it were your team in a ppr & the list below is in order by average points per game in my scoring system over the last 4 weeks, who would you choose/keep/or drop as your 4 WRs to take you to the playoffs:

In order by average points per game over last 4 weeks:

Michael Floyd Ari – WR (available to pickup Nov. 6)

    Marlon Brown Bal – WR

Mike Brown Jax – WR (currently on my team)

    Kris Durham Det – WR

    Brandon LaFell Car – WR

DeAndre Hopkins Hou – WR (currently on my team)

    Greg Little Cle – WR

Rueben Randle NYG – WR (currently on my team)

    Marquise Goodwin Buf – WR

    Jacoby Jones Bal – WR

Anquan Boldin SF – WR (currently on my team)

    Drew Davis Atl – WR

    Dexter McCluster KC – WR

Dwayne Bowe KC – WR (currently on my team)

    Cole Beasley Dal – WR

    Clyde Gates NYJ – WR

    Tandon Doss Bal – WR

    Davone Bess Cle – WR

    Greg Salas NYJ – WR

Darrius Heyward-Bey Ind – WR (available to pickup Nov. 7)

    Mohamed Sanu Cin – WR

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Thanks for reading! Given those guys, my four favorite are (in no order): Durham, Marlon Brown, Randle, and Bowe (ik it’s tough, but he’s talented and they have a favorable schedule down the stretch) … I’d keep a tab on Michael Crabtree as well if you’re swinging for the fences. I prefer Brown to Jacoby Jones if you want a Baltimore guy (aDOT is roughly the same and Brown has just been better). Boldin would make the list if you were in front and looking to hold onto a lead, but thats not the case. I dont doubt that Hopkins will have a nice game here and there, but the schedule doesn’t knock me over and neither does Case Keenum long term. Ted Ginn is probably available and not a bad home run threat … if you’ve got more questions (now or down the road), ill take them @unSOPable23 on Twitter … thanks again for reading and best of luck!

I’ve got a WR situation. I just got A. Dobson(BYE) since he’s hot, but J. Gordon(BYE) is now avalable. Should I keep Dobson or should I go for Gordon?

    • feelz

josh gordon.. no question.. if u really like dobson, then maybe consider dropping sum1 else.. but gordon must b picked up immediately, i wish i was in ur league..

      • Sam Zaffrann

If this was three weeks ago I would have dropped dobson no doubt, it’s just that Dobson is REALLy hot and that he’s the new X in New England since he took KT’s spot. And BTW this doesn’t happen all the time, it isn’t that easy of a league
