With large investments in the defensive line this offseason, as well as promising quarterback play from Ryan Tannehill in 2014, optimism was abound for the Dolphins heading into Week 1. After three weeks, however, the 1-2 Miami roster is not living up to the hype.

PFF’s Cris Collinsworth examines the woes fans in Miami are experiencing in this week’s edition of “What’s wrong with my team?”

The Dolphins have so many problems that I was expecting a 20 minute segment here.

The same thing that’s usually wrong with the Dolphins. Too weak on the Lines. Every time I brought this up in the offseason and preseason all peeps wanted to talk about was receivers, OK, well this isn’t Arena ball. Blocking and tackling matter.

Watching the Dolphins defensive players last week I couldn’t tell if they were trying to tackle or hail a cab. Are they aware that using both arms is allowed?

One thing we learned from Suh is that Odrick wasn’t really the weak link. The timeline as outlined by Collinsworth, indicates Cam Wake might be a problem. But Mitchell isn’t doing much either and OV needs to step up. The only great tackler in the back 7 is Reshad Jones. Misi is very average. The Fins have no MLB really.

The bigger problem is the Offense. They just don’t want to run the ball. The remedy for this team would to be able to get hard yard 1st downs running the ball. However, the coaches and players just don’t seem to believe in smashmouth FB. So opponents get to tee off on the short pass game bc Tannehill has no time to throw deep. Jarvis Landry has to be superman because he’s obviously getting the ball.

Collinsworth nailed it on the head regarding the guard play and the demise of Cam Wake. Tannehill doesn’t have a chance behind that offensive line and neither does Lamar Miller and the running game. I would also question the play calling on both sides of the ball and the lack of a true leader on this team. It will be interesting to see if the Dolphins can pull out a win this week against the Jets and then regroup in their week 5 bye week.
