In the latest installment of “What’s wrong with my quarterback?,” Cris Collinsworth takes a look at the issues plaguing Colin Kaepernick.

Feel your team’s QB isn’t playing up to his potential? Nominate him for next week’s edition of “What’s wrong with my quarterback?” on Twitter.

Kaepernick has turned into Tim Tebow 2.0 Just as him, both had a reliable running game, capable receivers, good O-line and an aggresive defense but when you rely on Tebow to resolve the game then things got ugly and Kaepernick is dealing same thing. Kaepernick is just a game manager and he needs lots of help to even lead the offensive unit rather than take the team over his shoulders and move his teammates in order to make points in the scoreboard.

I can tell you one thing watching him, seems about every other throw is off his back foot.

@Hekthorne Warro you are ssooooooooooooooooooo wrong in your observation of the 2, 1) Kap actually can throw the ball 2) Kap has had some success in the NFL, Tebow cannot throw the ball,He is a worm-killer when throwing the ball,Kap has won many games compared to tebow, look they are not the same QB at all.

I’m a Niners fan and it’s a hard pill to swallow but facts are there.Sure is Kaepernick has a stronger arm than Tebow but his accuracy is even worse than Tebow either on short or long passes. Both panics when they face pressure and insctintively want to run rather wait for an open target. Yes, Kaepernick managed an offense efectively on 2012 playoffs when the moment was favorable by Niners but in SB47 had a tough game trying to trail Ravens’ lead. If you might argue about Steelers game he had decent stats but truth is that game was already lose and Steelers D was already tired of shutting down Niners Offense on 3 quarters. That was not the case with Cards D because they never let him be comfortable at any moment of the game. Also you have to consider he spent to much time trying to fix those issues with different QB gurus on his career (George Whitfield, Dennis Giles and Jim Harbaugh on his daily basis) and neither one of them could change his role of game manager into a happy passing QB. Finally his attitude on the field is also questionable because guys like Rodgers, Rivers, Brady or Big Ben after their fourth season take the lead of his teammates and demand effectiveness of each one of the offensive players while Kap seems that he can get the courage to be assertive with older players than him.

He’s had success off the back of Smith when he went to the SuperBowl, where he lost the big game. After that, he’s gone downhill. Smith had success the last two years, until this year when he’s been getting hammered in the pocket. Sound familiar? Yes, both QB’s are protected by the lousiest offensive lines in the league. The tough part for Kaepernick is that he’s reverted to his bad habits and as far as receivers go, he just doesn’t hit them with passes the way they catch them best. The biggest example of that is Davis. Smith and Hill made Davis a 13 TD tight end. Suddenly, instead of getting the ball over his shoulder so he’s moving down the field, he’s had to catch balls facing the QB. That doesn’t get you yardage after the catch.
One other thing about the Super Bowl loss. Near the end of the game, when Smith watch the Niners come up to the line, he noticed that the other team was going to blitz. Smith tried to get Harbaugh to call a time out and put in a pressure beater, something Smith did routinely (experience). You know what happened after that.

If every edition of “What’s wrong with my Quarterback” focuses on either Luck or Kapernick the staff at PFF is going to get flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.

They were going to just call it ‘What’s wrong with Geno Smith’ but then he couldn’t play so they had to find other people to poke.

      • crosseyedlemon

I’m guessing they will have Jay Cutler as their feature whipping boy once he gets back from his injury.

        • Sam Doohan

Well given how he’s been playing, yeah that seems likely.

What’s wrong with Ryan Mallet is coming up next I predict

It’s pretty easy to fix Kap. Just send him down the yellow brick road to the Wiz for a brain.

His performance belies the dysfunction with their front office and coaching. As crazy as Harbaugh is, he clearly held that franchise together. No one short of a football genius can win as many games as they did under him with 2 QBs as limited as he had.
