Ty Montgomery has a tasty matchup in Week 6

Welcome to the Matchups Machine, which narrows down ideal matchups from around the league on a weekly basis using the tools we have available at PFF, the Las Vegas odds, and insight from yours truly.

PFF has all the tools to break down each individual matchup. Do you want to know how your wide receiver is going to do? Well, if he lines up as a split end on 90 percent of his snaps, we can pinpoint which cornerback he will be matching up with for those snaps. We can also tell you how that cornerback has performed.

Of course, as was the case in the past, this column will become more accurate as the season goes on and we compile more grades for the players and get a feel for the tendencies and overall strengths/weaknesses of the 32 teams.

The goal of this column is to help you with those tricky decisions in year-long leagues, but also to help you narrow down your best options in daily fantasy leagues. You will see a mix of big-name players and fringe starters. Without further ado, let’s get into it.

Sam Bradford vs. Giants

In Week 5’s Matchups Machine, I suggested that Eli Manning had the best matchup of the week. Although he is not matching up with the 49ers defense this week, I am suggesting another NFC East quarterback for Week 6 — Sam Bradford.

Eagles head coach Chip Kelly credited the offensive line for the team’s sudden offensive explosion in Week 5 against the Saints where the Eagles racked up 519 yards of total offense with 34 first downs and four offensive touchdowns. He is somewhat correct — offensive linemen Jason Kelce and Jason Peters played phenomenally. However, it was the matchup against the Saints, with their nonexistent pass rush and shoddy pass coverage that allowed the Eagles to get going. In Week 6, the Eagles match up with one of the few defenses in the NFL that has been equally as awful against the pass.

The Giants enter Week 6 as PFF’s seventh-worst team in pass coverage. They are a sieve at the slot cornerback position, they can’t defend the middle of the football field and their safeties are prone to getting beat over the top. But at least they have cornerbacks Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (+5.7) and Prince Amukamara (+4.2). We can’t say the same about the players tasked with bringing pressure to opposing quarterbacks.
