Titans: Roos’ injury opens door for Lewan

PFF-headlinesThe Tennessee Titans have announced that starting left tackle Michael Roos’ injured right knee will require surgery and end his season. Roos has been a constant figure in the Titans’ lineup for years, missing just one game in his NFL career to date.

The left tackle was having a solid 2014 campaign before going down on Sunday, grading out positively in both pass and run blocking for a +4.6 overall grade. He has allowed one sack and 8 hurries this season and is tied for 23rd in our Pass Blocking Efficiency (PBE) rating among offensive tackles.

Roos’ injury thrusts first-round selection Taylor Lewan into the starting lineup. The former Michigan Wolverine will make his first career start this weekend against the Jaguars. Lewan had a strong preseason, allowing only one pressure in 88 pass block snaps and earning a 98.9 PBE rating that ranked fourth-highest among all offensive tackles in the preseason.

The future is now in Tennessee. Ken Whisenhunt and company will be hoping Lewan’s strong preseason play carries over to regular season football. The big tackle seems up to the challenge.
