Tillman done for year. Where now for Bears?

PFF-headlinesAccording to Adam Caplan the Bears are just about to put Charles Tillman on IR ending his year. If this happens it’s the second year in succession Tillman hasn’t made it through the season and it may be time, after 12 years in the league, to start thinking about life after football.

After a phenomenal 2012 where we rated him the 19th best player in football he started 2013 poorly (giving up seven TDs in nine games while struggling with a knee injury) before tearing his tricep and missing the final seven games.

It’s the same thing again with another triceps tear ending his season and probably forcing the Bears to use Brock Vereen in the slot role that Tim Jennings had been playing. Well that’s what happened last night anyway as, with Tillman’s departure, Jennings stayed outside and the rookie came inside in nickel. It was an unusual move as he’d only played safety in the preseason so maybe the Bears may look to bring Isaiah Frey, their nickel from last year, off the practice squad going forward.

In the 49ers game, in 18 snaps, Vereen was thrown at once giving up a 6 yard reception and also missed a tackle on the QB while blitzing.
