Here’s this week’s optimized cash game lineup:
QB: Zach Mettenberger
Attention bargain shoppers, you can’t beat this price. Mettenberger comes in at the bare minimum after he was named the starter mid-week. We’re going to take full advantage of this discount, and stack our roster elsewhere.
QB: Tom Brady
It wasn’t a pretty start to the season, but Brady has really started to heat up over the last few weeks. He’s thrown for a combined 622 yards and seven scores in his last two games, so you have to like the direction he’s trending. You also have to like the fact that Vegas believes this will be one of the week’s highest-scoring contests.
RB: Matt Forte
It’s a rare running back who can consistently put up points whether his team is winning or losing. Forte does just that, as Jay Cutler tends to look his way plenty when the Bears are down. Forte’s uber-high floor makes him an ideal cash play this week.
RB: Arian Foster
If DeMarco Murray wasn’t doing his thing right now, everyone would be talking about Foster. This guy has topped 100 yards in all five of his full games this season, and has found paydirt six times.
WR: Jordy Nelson
Thank you, Zach Mettenberger. Ordinarily, we need to cut costs at the wide receiver position, but this week we can get one of the top options in our lineup. Nelson is the best receiver on one of the league’s top offenses. You know that, so I won’t bore you with stats and figures. Just start him.
WR: Jermaine Kearse
Last week, we did well with our Doug Baldwin play. While a lot of folks will likely turn to Baldwin again, I’m going in the opposite direction. Kearse is arguably the 1A to Baldwin in terms of the pecking order, and he could just as easily have a big week. Kearse is especially interesting this week, as he’s likely to see a lot of Antoine Cason here. Cason has been absolutely dreadful in coverage this season, and has yielded a touchdown in each of the last five games.
TE: Crockett Gillmore
Two bare minimum plays in one week. You have to love it when that happens. Gillmore sneaks into our lineup after Owen Daniels was declared out following a knee scope. We don’t know much about Gillmore, but what we can say is this is a great matchup. The Bengals currently yield the most fantasy points per game to tight ends. Even if Gillmore only scores us a few points, he’s done his job.
DEF: Jets
My team defense play of the week faces a Bills team that has yielded double-digit fantasy points in each of the last five weeks, and has let up a combined 18 sacks and giveaways in the last two games. You may have also heard that the Jets traded for Percy Harvin. Would you be surprised if Harvin went out and returned a punt for a touchdown in his first game as a Jet?
FLEX: Jamaal Charles
Andy Reid finally gets it. You have to give your elite running back touches in order for him to be successful. Over the last three weeks, the Chiefs have done just that and Charles has topped 100 total yards twice and scored three times. Expect more of that on Sunday against the Rams in Arrowhead.
FLEX: Mark Ingram
With Pierre Thomas and Khiry Robinson sidelined, Ingram projects to get the lion’s share of touches on Sunday night against a poor Packers run defense. Let’s not forget that Ingram was one of the hottest players in fantasy football before breaking his hand in Week 2. He’s a strong value at a modest price.
