Steve Smith breaks back

Sunday’s games were relatively quiet in regards to injuries. That’s good news for everyone. Hopefully Monday night’s game follows that trend.

Nevertheless, there is a lot of fantasy-relevant injury news you need to know heading into Week 5. As with every week, this article will be updated throughout the week as more is known regarding these injuries.

Quarterbacks

Andrew Luck dealt with a sore right shoulder all last week, and was inactive for Sunday’s game. He underwent an MRI. It reportedly showed he had a bruised shoulder, and no significant structural damage. The exact diagnosis is unclear, but it may be similar to what Drew Brees was dealing with a couple of weeks ago: a rotator cuff contusion.

If that’s the case, Luck’s return will be based solely on the resolution of his symptoms. He likely missed Sunday’s game due to having decreased throwing range of motion with pain. Once his shoulder regains full active range of motion, and he can throw the ball with minimal pain and adequate power, he will return to play.

The Colts play on Thursday night this week. Luck’s absence from Sunday’s game gave him an additional five days of rehab. It’s difficult to gauge how long it will take his symptoms to resolve, but I think it’s a reasonable expectation for him to play on Thursday. His practice participation on Wednesday will give us a better indication of his Week 5 availability.
