Seahawks: Unger's health a concern

PFF-headlinesWith two weeks remaining in the regular season the Seahawks have control of their own destiny. Win out and secure the division, a first-round bye, and possibly home field advantage for second year in a row.

Health is critical during this stretch, especially their O-line, but starting center Max Unger still banged up after missing four straight games and his status in question for today’s game.

Enter Lemuel Jeanpierre, Unger’s backup. Jeanpierre has matched Unger’s production in the passing game giving up only three QB hurries in his three games for a Pass Blocking Efficiency (PBE) of 97.8 to Unger’s 97.6. It’s in the running game where Seattle has to be concerned about a drop off.

Unger has been one of the league’s best run blocking centers this season, with a grade of +14.0 that puts in him in the Top 5.  Over the past three games Jeanpierre ‘s -6.2 ranks 31st out of 32 centers.  Most of Jeanpierre’s struggles came last week at the hands of the 49ers' Quinton Dial who kept driving Jeanpierre into the backfield and gumming up run plays.

Unger will definitely be welcomed back with open arms when he’s finally healthy.
