ReFo: Jets @ Bills, Week 12

2014-REFO-WK12-NYJ@BUFThe second Monday Night Football game of the week thanks to a small continent’s worth of snow dropping on the Buffalo area over the past week ended up being a pretty routine victory for the ‘home’ side.

Playing in Detroit’s Ford Field, there was only ever one winner of this game, and the Jets not don’t seem to have any idea which quarterback gives them any chance to win games.

Let’s take a look at who stood out on either side of the ball.

New Yor Jets – Performances of Note

Michael Vick, QB: -5.7

Breakdown: From sacking himself to throwing potential pick-six passes to generally being unable to get anything going on offense Michael Vick played himself back to the bench with a terrible looking display.

Signature Play: Q2, 0:20. Vick bailed from the pocket and came under pressure from a defender but rather than toss the ball out of bounds just elected to take a 2-yard loss and sack himself instead.

Chris Ivory, RB: +1.1 (rushing)

Breakdown: It figures that the Jets actually had some success running the football in this game but gave Johnson and Ivory a combined 14 carries (from which they gained 71 yards). Ivory again looked explosive and tough to take down and exactly what the Jets need on offense.

Signature Stat: Gained 18 of his 31 yards after contact.

Damon Harrison, NT: +0.8

Breakdown: You know it’s bad when nobody on the Jets’ defensive front is grading well. Harrison’s 0.8 was the best mark of the unit and that was pretty average. The Jets are rarely controlled up front, but they made little impact in this game.

Signature Stat: Jets defensive linemen combined for just one sack, two hits and two hurries.

Buffalo Bills – Performances of Note

Robert Woods, WR: +4.2

Breakdown: There was a touch of the spectacular for spectacular’s sake in a couple of his catches, but Robert Woods was a human highlight reel in this game. Thrown at 11 times, he caught nine balls for 118 yards and a score.

Signature Play: Q2, 2:54. It wasn’t quite Odell Beckham Jr., but it was a fine one-handed grab down the sideline despite the penalty from the defensive back.

Nigel Bradham, LB: +4.3

Breakdown: When the Bills lost Kiko Alonso, Bradham was the guy tasked with filling those boots and in this game he emulated Alonso’s game perfectly. He showed well against the run and in coverage, and led the team with six defensive stops.

Signature Stat: Made a team-high six defensive stops from is seven tackles. Nobody else on the Bills had more than three.

Jerry Hughes, DE: -0.5

Breakdown: Jerry Hughes has become a fantastic fourth member of this defensive line. He is never going to be the focus of attention with the other members, so it allows him to just be relentless as a rusher and generate pressure. That’s exactly what he did in this game, harrying the Jets’ passers until the ball was gone.

Signature Stat: Matched Mario Williams’ two sacks, but also added a hit and five hurries while Mario could only add two hurries to his sacks.

PFF Game Ball

Bradham had a good case on defense and even Kyle Orton’s display on offense deserves a mention, but the game ball rightfully belongs to Robert Woods.

When you best QB is the rotting corpse of michael Vick, what do you expect?
To think, Rex actually wants to go back to Vick vs. Miami next week!

  • Mark Schaffer

Bills defense and special teams were hitting hard and beating up the Jets all over the field … nice to see for a change.
