Ravens: Webb could provide major boost to secondary

PFF-headlinesThrough two games, Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith has performed admirably, grading at +2.5 while allowing just 0.31 yards per coverage snap (third-lowest in the league). The other Ravens corners haven’t fared as well, grading a combined -4.9… but help could be on the way.

All indications point to Ladarius Webb returning to the Ravens' defensive backfield Sunday for the first time this season. The sixth-year cornerback injured his back early in training camp and is officially listed as probable on the injury report.

How much could Webb help the Ravens? For starters, he’s been the team’s highest-graded cornerback since 2011. During that three-year span, Webb is the only corner in the league to rank in the Top 10 in our run defense grading each season. In fact, he has yet to grade negatively against the run in a game during his entire career.

Now more than a year removed from his 2012 season-ending knee injury, the Ravens hope Webb can return to his dominant 2011 form, when he ranked sixth in the NFL in QB passer rating allowed (55.6) among cornerbacks.
