Punter Rankings – Week 10

marquetteHis preseason position battle with Chris Kluwe was quite compelling, and over the course of the past five weeks, the Raiders’ Marquette King has emerged to put up the second-most fantasy points amongst punters (behind only the Chiefs’ Dustin Colquitt). He accomplished that feat despite playing only four games (the Raiders were on bye in Week 7) whereas Colquitt played five games, and his 16.88 weekly average was best among those punters who are still working.

King has one of the strongest – if not the strongest – legs in the league, and should have strong fantasy value for as long as the Raiders’ offense sputters (their 146 points are tied for third-least), but there are some clear signs that he will need to improve his craft if he’s to last in the league. His -2.0 PFF rating is third-worst in the league, and one of the punters behind him (Zoltan Mesko) is a street free agent after getting cut by the Steelers last week. Predictably, King’s gross yardage is among the league’s best (48.2, fourth-best in the league), but his 40.6 net average is only middle of the pack. And despite having the sixth-most opportunities to punt (48), his 10 punts inside the 20 ranks only 29th in the league.
