Titans to capitalize on Taywan Taylor’s versatility

  • Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Mularkey recently told Titansonline.com that rookie wide receiver Taywan Taylor is working on the outside and in the slot during rookie camp.
  • Taylor, a third-round pick, was a home-run hitter for Western Kentucky over the past two seasons.
  • During that span, he caught 35 passes that were targeted 20-plus yards beyond the line of scrimmage for 1,686 yards and 21 touchdowns.
  • While most of his production came from the outside, Taylor was able to take advantage of his limited role in the slot. He ran 191 of his 802 routes from the slot over the past two seasons, catching 52 passes for 723 yards and six scores in the process.
  • His 4.55 slot yards per route run in 2016 was second to Titans first-round pick Corey Davis (4.99) for this year’s receiving class.
  • Titans receivers were targeted only 80 times on routes from the slot last season, which ranked 31st in the NFL.
