The Jets and Ravens have discussed Decker trade

  • According to The MMQB’s Albert Breer, the New York Jets have discussed trading wide receiver Eric Decker to the Baltimore Ravens, and other unnamed teams. Decker has been rumored to be traded or released by the team in the near future.
  • Decker was signed by the Jets as a free agent in 2014 after spending the first four years of his career in Denver. He only appeared in three games in 2016, playing only 210 snaps, and then was placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.
  • 2015 was Decker’s best season with the Jets, his overall PFF grade of 82.7 ranked him 20th out of 121 qualifying wide receivers. He was fifth in the NFL that season in yards per route run from the slot among receivers with at least 300 slot routes run at 1.80.
  • The Ravens are looking for wide receiver help after the retirement of Steve Smith this offseason. Both the Ravens and Jets ranked in the bottom half of the NFL in total yards per route run from their wide receivers in 2016.

6th round pick tops for a player destined to be released.

If the Jets can get a 6th round pick for a player they are going to cut, they should do it in a heart beat. I don’t think Ozzie Newsome will offer that much.

It will depend on if Ozzie feels he can sign Jeremy Maclin, if Maclin signs with the Bills or some other team. Then the Ravens may not have a choice whether to give up a pick for him. This has been Ozzie Newsomes MO for awhile now, signing a veteran WR that is coming off a major injury and convincing him that he can rebuild his career in Baltimore. I actually prefer Decker over Maclin, Decker is bigger and runs better routes. While Maclin is talented, he doesn’t seem to be about winning now more so than money. Signing with Buffalo or any of these rebuilding teams will show exactly where his priorities lie, if things go right for the Ravens. Maybe they can sign both, although it is a longshot.

While im still pissed off at the fact that Ozzie allowed 7 full rounds to go by, and not once did he address the WR position. With two picks in the 3rd round, the Ravens had a chance to select WR JuJu Smith-Schuster. After investing 6 draft picks over the last 3 years in the D-line, there was no need for DE Chris Wormley. While Wormley may turn out to be a very good player, getting a young stud WR was much more important. Smith-Schuster is a Anquan Boldin clone, at 6ft 2, 225lbs with big hands and a physical style of play. Smith-Schuster would have been a perfect addition to our receiving corps, now it comes down to if we can get either Eric Decker or Jeremy Maclin. To have invested so many picks in the TE position only to get so little production, yet ignoring the WR position far to long has us in this situation. The lost of both Steve Smith and Kamar Aiken has the unit very thin, with only Wallace and Perriman having any real production. There are other teams that have depth at the WR position, the LA Chargers have 2 players that they maybe willing to part with. Yes draft picks are valuable, however a proven veteran still under 25 is even more valuable. Dontrelle Inman and Tyrell Williams are two players Ozzie should inquirer about, when Keenan Allen went down last year both stepped up and showed they were undervalued. With the Chargers having drafted Mike Williams in the 1st round, Keenan Allen back from injury, having signed Travis Benjamin to a big contract last off-season. Tyrell Williams and or Inman maybe available, considering the depth they have at WR. Not counting TE’s Antonio Gates and Hunter Henry, there is only so many receptions to go around. With the Ravens in line for compensation picks next year, sending a 4th or 5th round pick to the Chargers maybe the best and cheapest way to go even if they sign Maclin and or Decker. Make no mistake about it, Ozzie has a plain up his sleeve.
