The Pittsburgh Steelers have released QB Zach Mettenberger, which should not come as a surprise considering they already consider Landry Jones to be an ”elite” backup, and they drafted Tennessee’s Joshua Dobbs in the fourth-round Saturday. Mettenberger did not play a snap in 2016, but his struggles against pressure in 2015 may be an indication as to why the Steelers were willing to address the position in the draft and part ways with the ex-LSU Tiger.

  • In 2015, Mettenberger completed just 30 of 58 passes when under pressure while throwing just one touchdown and four interceptions, leading to a QB rating of just 43.8.
  • Dobbs’ 105.7 QB rating while under pressure in 2016 ranked second among drafted QBs.
  • He saw the third-highest percentage of pressured snaps (36.4) among drafted QBs, behind only C.J. Beathard (drafted by San Francisco in Round 3) and Patrick Mahomes (drafted by Kansas City in Round 1).
  • His 12 touchdown passes and 66.7 accuracy percentage under pressure both ranked No. 1 in the draft class.
