The former Jets, Eagles, and Cowboys QB picked up the injury in OTAs, but it is not an issue that should linger into the season.

Sanchez injures knee, expected back by training camp

  • Chicago Bears QB Mark Sanchez suffered a knee injury during organized team activities. Sanchez will miss the remainder of OTAs and minicamp, but is expected to return for training camp in July.
  • In his seven-year career so far, Sanchez has just two seasons with grades over 70. In his highest-graded season (2015), Sanchez played just 173 snaps.
  • In 2015, Sanchez performed well against pressure. His 87.6 passer rating ranked fifth among QBs with at least 100 dropbacks. His 73.3 percent completion percentage ranked first.

You have to wonder what might have been for Sanchez had he got his start with a team other than the Jets. If healthy he can provide passable backup duty for short stretches.

Before you blindly knock the Jets, please remember that he made it to the American Conference championship game his first two years. If the Jets had a decent quarterback they might have won two Super Bowls.

My intent was not to knock the Jets but rather to suggest that playing in a city out of the media spotlight might have worked better for Sanchez. The NY media can brutally hard on young athletes in every sport if they don’t immediately measure up to expectations.

That is true but Sanchez has failed with every other team that signed him. For Jet fans, finding a quality QB is like finding the Holy Grail.
