  • The New Orleans Saints signed veteran center Chris Watt on Monday. Watt was drafted in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers, and has played 676 career snaps along the interior offensive line, including 480 at center.
  • In 2014, Watt ended the season with a pass-blocking efficiency of 97.7, ranking 14th of 39 centers with at least 185 pass-blocking snaps. In 2015, he played just 80 pass-blocking snaps and received a pass-blocking efficiency grade of 91.3, ranking 62nd of 64 centers (with no minimum snap threshold). He lost the 2016 season due to injury.
  • Starting center Max Unger (who received the third-highest pass-blocking efficiency rating among centers last season), is currently recovering from foot surgery, and has said that he plans to be ready for Week 1. However, the signing of Watt gives the Saints depth at the position, and a level of insurance in case Unger suffers a setback.
