Patriots rise to No. 1, Cowboys No. 2 in PFF’s NFL Power Rankings for Week 7

Week 6 of the NFL season is in the books, and with it, a few new teams have risen to the top of Pro Football Focus’ weekly Power Rankings.

PFF’s Power Rankings are based off of Senior NFL Analyst Sam Monson’s ordering of all 32 NFL teams, offenses, and defenses. He uses PFF’s overall cumulative grades as a starting point, and makes necessary subjective adjustments to account for things that aren’t captured in the grading system, such as injuries.

The PFF Power Rankings will be updated every Tuesday morning during the NFL season—view the latest edition entering Week 7 here.

NFL Power Rankings

It didn’t take long for Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski to lift the New England Patriots to the No. 1 overall spot. After just two weeks of play, Brady has already passed Carson Wentz for the highest overall grade among quarterbacks this season; among tight ends, Gronk now sits behind only Panthers TE Greg Olsen following a career-high receiving day versus the Bengals.

While much credit is to be given to the Patriots’ offense for this rapid ascension, the New England defense has also played its part. Through six weeks, the Patriots own the seventh-best defense, anchored by an impressive run-defense grade.

Another team—albeit one that is much more surprising after posting a 4-12 record in 2015—rising up the ranks is the Dallas Cowboys. Dak Prescott, PFF’s 11th-highest graded quarterback through six weeks, is truly stirring up a QB controversy once Tony Romo is back to full health. Fourth-overall pick Ezekiel Elliott is also living up to his billing behind that impressive Dallas offensive line, owning the highest grade among all rookie running backs this season, and the eighth-best among all NFL RBs.

On the other end of the spectrum, last year’s NFC champions, the Carolina Panthers, currently find themselves all the way down at No. 28 in the rankings. Last season’s MVP Cam Newton currently ranks No. 12 in PFF’s quarterback grades, but weaknesses at other positions, particularly in the secondary, have led to early-season struggles for Carolina.

Be sure to check back each week for the most up-to-date edition of the PFF Power Rankings.

The Bears probably deserve a ranking around 29 but how does that figure if they are ranked 18 and 19 in the other categories?
I’m going to again suggest additional columns showing how each team is tracking from the previous week.

    • Jason Williams

The Bears are looking more and more like that lions team that lost every game.

      • crosseyedlemon

Hi Jason. It’s even more depressing when we can’t blame this disaster on Cutler. Here’s hoping the Cubs can bring some glory to Chi town.

        • Jason Williams

Tonight is HUGE for the cubs.

  • Pat Infante

The Vikings will beat the piss out of the Cowboys

    • Jeff

Wrong. Cowboys 27-16. Their offense is nearly unstoppable and Minny’s offense is pitiful. Cowboy’s D will shut down any attack the Vikings try to muster.

      • Pat Infante

if you think a rookie qb is scoring more than 10 pts on Mike Zimmer you need to find a new hobby. no team will score 27 pts on us this year. NONE. Cowboys defense??? Pllllllllllllease

Mike Zimmer is the best defensive mind in football.

        • Alex Carpenter

I also don’t understand the use of the word “pitiful” here? We’re averaging 23.8 ppg when we only need to score 14 to win? Dak looked sloppy in last game at GB too, threw a pick then dropped the ball. He won’t be getting away with those mistakes against MN.

          • Pat Infante

hes just an over excited cowboys fan. they will get the smack layed down on them when they play in Minny

          • Thor

            Oops

          • Pat Infante

true true, you guys won. but it did take an assist from the refs to beat us with our back up offense and back up coach… but id take a win under the same circumstances.

          • Thor

Home field, and the refs were absolutely terrible on both sides. On that very play, the LT came off the line before the snap, so it should have been a false start and blown dead anyway.

The Vikings D were playing out of their minds for their ailing coach. The scheduling for both teams was absolutely horrible though, nice to get past this garbage of 3 games in 12 days, that’s just asinine. Good luck next year, some offensive line help and the Vikings will be a force in the North. GB looks to be trending down for sure.

          • Jeff

303 y/gm (30th in the NFL), 4.9 y/play (30th in NFL), 2.5 y/rush (32nd in NFL), though the rushing offense is better without AP! If you remove defensive and kick return scores, the Minny offense in mini indeed: 18.2 ppg. And based on the offensive (lack of) proficiency, if they hadn’t gotten those returns or def scores, they wouldn’t have done much. So basically, in order to beat a quality offensive team, your defense or special teams better find a way to score, because the offense is offensive.

          • Thinkaboutit

Cowboys fans are cute :). “Oh, well if you take this away and that away your points would go down”. Haha, they always tickle my funny bone, those 11 sacks are sooo scawy, you guys may actually break 30 this year! OOOhhhhh, a +4 turnover ratio, im starting to get the halloween spookys!!
Time for some facts to educate your bumpkin a$#. Vikings have 8 more sacks, 3 more interceptions, 2 more defensive tds, and 2 more special teams tds than the cowboys while playing 1 less game. You guys allow 45% of opponents 3rd downs to be converted while the vikings allow 33%, you have a +4 t/o ratio to our +11. That awesome shutdown D allows a 66% completion rate and a rating of 95, while the vikes allow 55.5% and a rating of 65.3, quite the difference.

          • Jeff

Yeah, let’s just ignore the real offensive numbers the Vike have put up.

          • Alex Carpenter

You just don’t get it haha

          • Jeff

I don’t get what? The mighty situational Vikings’ offense and how it is rolling against the Eagles?

          • Thinkaboutit

I mean, Bradford passes for more yards per game and has a higher rating. i guess you could talk about our running game, you know , the same running game thats out-rushing our opponents while never fumbling and forcing 3, and thats despite facing 3 top 10 rushing attacks in 5 games. Whats funny is that of those 3 opponents, only 1 had more rushing yards in a game than us. FACTS

          • Jeff

You viking fans really get worked up don’t you? Must be a lack of rings or something. We’ll see how it plays out in a few weeks!

          • Alex Carpenter

No it was just obvious homer/stupidity from you. Honestly not worried about Dallas at all. They’re way overrated, per usual. Too easy to walk all over you Jeff. Watch the games other than the Cowboys and you might learn something.

          • Jeff

Apparently not too worried about the Eagles either….because the Vikings didn’t show up….or can’t show up, one or the other.

          • Jeff

Oh I am watching the Vikings get dominated by the Eagles…you are also, I presume. And I’m a homer!!! Ha

          • Jeff

Yeah, but you weren’t worried about Chicago either.

          • Jeff

Hey, Alex, I just watched my fourth Minny game of the year…. :)

          • Alex Carpenter

This guy also thinks it’s all about offense, he obviously hasn’t been paying much attention to the NFL latey.

          • Jeff

Not all, but it helps if your offense isn’t a total cluster!

          • Jeff

Too bad the defense can’t shutout the Eagles. Because as I stated before, the Vikings’ offense is a mess. And your special teams looks abysmal!

          • Jeff

I am still cute…and the Vikings offense still stinks. I believe the Bears converted 7/14 (50%) of their 3rd downs tonight. That vaunted defense got shredded by Cutler and Howard….man that has to hurt.

          • Jeff

Pitiful, pitiful, pitiful. I am sure you understand it after today! I called them a bottom five offense and I think I will stick by that analysis.

        • Jeff

Who said Dak would be starting against Mini?

        • Jeff

I like Zimmer, learned his skills with the Cowboys years ago and it was a shame to see him leave. But there will be no <20 point game for Dallas in Mini. Dallas 27, Vikes 20.

          • Pat Infante

your smoking crack man. the Cowboys are a decent team but a year away from really doing anything

          • Jeff

            Still feeling confident?

          • Pat Infante

nope, the o line is a mess. the injuries have caught up with us… the cowboys will still win nothing but no im not confident.

        • Jeff

Rodgers managed exactly 1/2 the number of TDs against Dallas as he got against Minn. Cincy was being shutout until it didn’t really matter (midway through the 3rd quarter, down 28-0). The Dallas defense is getting better each week. Mini’s offense is not going to improve much if any. One threat at the WR position (he should be a number 2 receiver) and a decent TE. That’s it for offensive weapons. McKinnon? Asiata? Patterson? (Only on kickoff returns.) Theilen? Please. A bunch of guys who wouldn’t see the field in Dallas.

          • Alex Carpenter

MInnesota’s offense isn’t going to improve even though our starting qb is still learning the offense and just had a bye week? But again you act like this game is going to be about the offenses and it’s not. You just don’t realize how good the MN defense is because you haven’t watched them enough. You will though don’t worry.

          • Jeff

I am going with a resounding “NO!”. Their offense still looks pitiful. Defense is very good but not nearly good enough to beat a good team consistently.

          • Pat Infante

our defense is on pace with the best defenses of all time. and our coach is the best coach in football not named Bill Belichick. you take the simple minded approach. We play situational football and get the W’s. By your logic we blew the Giants out and you guys lost to them. We have guys that dont start on our D (Danielle Hunter) who would be the best defender you have. wake up man. The Cowboys will be real good in the future but they just are not on our level. Too bad for the Cowboys we are a very young team and only going to get better every year as these young guys get into their prime.

          • Jeff

You viking fans really get worked up don’t you? Must be a lack of rings or something.

          • Pat Infante

yes you are probably right, the constant choking takes a toll…. however just telling ya the facts man

          • Jeff

And your insights on yesterday’s game????

          • Pat Infante

Piss poor performance by the Oline… Defense did their Job. Set the offense twice up inside the 20 and couldnt do anything with it. Eagles ran back a kickoff. We fumbled a punt. Sloppy game by us very uncharacteristic. OLine is bad but when that bad unit plays good they are average and thats good enough to win a ton of games. 1 game, people way over reacting to the point where its comical. Nothing will cure a bad performance like a date with the Bears next week. Nice that the Falcons lost and the Seahawks tied… could of been worse

          • Jeff

Hey, at least you are man enough to come back on and own a bad performance. I think the Vikings have the best defense in the NFL but the offense is really something to be concerned about. Not sure if the talent is good enough and they just need another year of experience or if the Vikings need a couple of different guys up front.

          • Pat Infante

its the same shitty oline they have had all year. its just 1 bad game where the naturally bad o line had a bad game. making it a disaster of an oline. they had enough Offense the other 5 wins. I suspect next Tuesday after MNF in Chicago people will be hopping back on the bandwagon.

          • Jeff

I suppose, but beating Chicago is kind of like playing you kid brother one-on-one. A win had better happen and convincingly, hopefully without injuries. I would rather see Minny win the North than the others. GB has had its time at top and Rodgers can use a little humbling :) I like Bradford and Zimmer, they are easy guys to root for.

          • Jeff

How’s that situational football looking against the Eagles? Your offense is a disaster (as I pointed out in an earlier post) and defenses can’t plan to shutout NFL offenses very often.

          • Jeff

Either the Vikings are even close to being a contender or the 2nd best coach in football didn’t do his job.

          • Pat Infante

or they played a bad game maybe… maybe??? c’mon man wake up. its 1 bad game that our o line got their dick kicked in and we turned it over a shit ton. everyone has bad weeks.

          • Jeff

Yeah, but coming off a bye week and playing a team with poor offense should have been a win for the Vikings. That generally points to a coach not getting his team ready. Too much free time and not enough focus in the bye week? Hopefully the Cowboys don’t do the same thing Sunday against the Eagles.

          • Jeff

I still see the offense as a serious problem for the Vikings. That is the third game of theirs I have watched and their have only been glimpses of offensive potency, nothing consistent. That OLine isn’t good enough to protect Sam the Statue if the defense isn’t respecting the run….and they aren’t.

          • Jeff

            And then there is tonight….

          • Jeff

So exactly what was the situational game plan tonight vs the Bears?

          • Pat Infante

Is this your first year watching football? The game plan is the the same every week for this team. Play defense, force turn overs, don’t do anything stupid on offense…. Unfortunately the Oline is a complete train wreck and may very well ruin the entire season.

            #Trump2016

          • Jeff

Nah, got about 40 of watching/coaching/scouting. You failed to mention that the “situational” game plan doesn’t account for a poor offensive line by adjusting route options to give Bradford a quick hitter at his disposal whenever the pocket looks to be collapsing too soon for all the downfield and long-developing crossing patterns they are running. Without watching the coaches’ film on the Vikings (I don’t care enough to do that), either Bradford is the worst QB around or the OC is doing a crappy job.

          • Pat Infante

really dont think the coaching is the problem. but worry bout your own damn team cowboy guy… you guys got 1 more win then us and we’ve lost our QB, RB, LT, RT, DT, SS…. take it deep bud

          • Jeff

            sniff, sniff
But two more wins in the last two weeks….

You need to relax, I didn’t start with Minny criticisms. I started by making a positive comment about the Cowboys and multiple Vikings fans started ripping on me. All I have done since then is point out how wrong all of their analysis has been.

          • Pat Infante

Actually you just got lucky because they lost 2 games and you can sit behind your keyboard and talk crap about them. But trust me bud, you don’t know shit about the Vikings compared to me…. but thats ok since your a Cowboys fan you probably shouldn’t. The injuries are finally taking a toll and the OLine is a complete dumpster fire. If the Cowboys lost there QB (which you did), RB, LT, RT, DT would they have a couple more losses??? Likely….

          • Jeff

You mean like if (besides a pro bowl QB) they had other players miss significant time? Like starters such as MLB McClain (suspended for most of the season, unlikely to play again), DE Lawrence (suspended for first 4 games, DE Gregory (suspended for 10 games), top CB Scandrick (missed 3 games due to injury), LG Collins (injured during 2nd game and is out for most if not the rest of the season), LT Smith missed 2 games with injury, WR Bryant (missed three games), and all purpose RB Dunbar (out all season so far with injury)? You think I don’t know about your injuries, but you are wrong. Your team had most of those injuries when you were talking about how great they were so you don’t get to blame it all on that now.

          • Pat Infante

run along my little cowboy friend. jeez. and yes the cowboys do employ a bunch of degenerates. ill say it again you dont know shit about the Vikings and your just a douche bag in general. suck a fat one you fucking turd

          • Jeff

Your post proves your lack of class, resorting to childish name calling and vulgarity when facts fail you. Way to represent!

          • Pat Infante

your just an idiot. now im curious if i keep responding if you will keep writing back. you dont know shit about the vikings. go read cowboys cuck daily or something

          • Jeff

Nah, after this post I will leave you alone…..just been fun trolling you guys…and easy.

          • Pat Infante

well u certainly are a troll. id imagine your one of the those guys that votes for Hillary Clinton too

          • Jeff

Sorry, one more. Never Clinton. Trump wasn’t first choice, but far, far better than the other choice now.

          • Pat Infante

finally we agree on something… Make America Great Again

          • Jeff

You are a rarity in Minnesota!

          • Pat Infante

            im from New Jersey… #FuckTheGiants

          • Jeff

Enjoying the election results? I know I am! (Go Cowboys!)

          • Pat Infante

            that was amazing.

          • Jeff

And I was talking crap before they lost two games….so yep, I have credibility.

          • Jeff

Having the same situational game plan every week, if true, would be an immense failure on the coaching staff’s part. If you can’t design/devise ways to utilize the talent on your roster more effectively than the last two weeks have been, you shouldn’t be an NFL coach.

        • Jeff

          HAHAHAHAHA! And Wentz is terrible!

    • Thor

How’s that game with the Bears going? LOL

    • Thor

Well, the game finally got here. 3 games in 12 days was a mess for both teams. Hard fought. A win is a win, and that’s one tough place to play.

  • Alex Carpenter

By looking at the average of offense and defense you’d put the Vikes ahead of Dallas. Then if you’ve payed attention to football you’d know how important defense is. But Dallas is Dallas so they’re going to get the hype and ranked higher.

    • Jeff

Dallas is going to route the Vikings in a couple of weeks. Fact is the Cowboys’ offense is that much better.

      • Alex Carpenter

It’s funny you think that. Dallas’s 26.5 ppg is “that much better” than Minnesota’s 23.8? I don’t think so. Especially since Minnesota only needs to score 14 pts to win a game. It’s very obvious you’ve only been watching your own team Dallas this year. I’ve watched both, this game is going to be against Zimmer’s defense and the actual fact is they are SOOOO much better. You’ve got a big head right now because Dallas beat an overrated GB team. Their run defense isn’t as good as the stats showed. They had played teams who don’t run the ball. I’m not concerned at all about the Cowboys coming into US Bank at all.

        • Jeff

Actually Alex, Mini’s offense scores 18.2 ppg. Their defense and special teams make up the rest. That number puts them in the bottom 5 in the NFL.

          • Alex Carpenter

Which they will continue to do.

          • Jeff

Ahem…..waiting for your humble analysis of yesterday’s absolute debacle as the Eagles thrashed the mighty Vikings making that lowly Mini offense look exactly like I said it was.

          • Thor

They’re now 3 losses in a row and counting. Suddenly the Vikings homers aren’t beating their chests. Lost at home to the Lions, good job. It’s been clear that they were overrated even during their win streak, but now the secret is out.

Serious NFC Teams : Dallas, Atlanta, GB. Some others could get it together like the rest of the NFC East, Saints, Cards, and the Lions are even showing they could possibly put on a decent run.

AFC : Patriots …… and then everything else. Raiders look potentially dangerous. Steelers are struggling. Denver is a QB away from being serious, and injuries in the 2nd half of the season can be a serious challenge for a team with a lopsided build : elite defense + mediocre offense.

          • Jeff

I actually feel bad for most Vikings fans right now. That isn’t a team I dislike, but the few that were on here a couple of weeks ago were just obnoxious and delusional. They aren’t representative of most Vikings fans. The garbage they were spouting was comical and so easy to refute, but they clung blindly anyway.

          • Jeff

Zero, zippo, none, nada…..number of defensive points scored tonight.

        • Jeff

Watched Mini for the third time today. Watched them beat GB and NYG. Watched them get thrashed today by a team that lost to the Redskins and the Lions.

          • Alex Carpenter

Haha I love your excitement for our first loss. Shows how scared you are and all these comments show how you’re not very used to being right. I’m sorry we’re not going 16-0 and our o-line got exposed. It needs to play better and it will. Too bad Dallas has to come to MN and doesn’t have a defense that can get after Bradford like that. If you think that game is going to be repeated then you’re wrong and haven’t watched a team coached by Zimmer.

          • Jeff

I have watched lots of teams coached by Zimmer, ever since he was an assistant coach with the Cowboys. Not that excited for Mini’s loss; hate the Eagles and would have loved to see them embarrassed. Unfortunately I was exactly right about the Viking’s offense. Philly has a good defense, but that was ridiculous. The game actually was very encouraging to me as the Cowboys still have to play three games against these two teams.

          • Alex Carpenter

You weren’t exactly right at all haha It was one game. You just don’t get it but I’m happy for you because it seems like you need this in your life to feel that you were right. Also I don’t remember Zim ever being a head coach before? Assistant vs. Head Coach is a pretty significant difference. Your Cowboys aren’t coming into MN and doing that to us haha I’ll be sure to remind you then of how I was “exactly right”.

          • Jeff

I look forward to that conversation. Actually, trolling you guys has been a blast. So worked up over your team….so blinded by your loyalty. I can admire the commitment, but it lacks rationale thought sometimes!

          • Jeff

And I am still exactly right about Minny’s mini offense. Pitiful, I believe that was the term I used last week….still fitting. Can’t run it , can’t protect the passer, who holds the ball too long and takes way too many hits.

          • Jeff

            Repeated immediately. Now about Zimmer…….

        • Jeff

And I still think Dallas’s offense is way better than Minnesota’s. I would start getting very concerned if I were you…not only about the Cowboys but about any team with a decent offense.

    • Jeff

My guess is that Dallas will still be ranked higher after Mini’s debacle today. Pitiful offense!

      • Alex Carpenter

Difference was special teams really if you watched the game but nice try to spin in it like you were right. They had 11 points off a KR and muffed punt which was the difference in the game. I’ll take 5 games over 1. Enjoy your 1 week of feeling good about a predication haha

        • Jeff

Oh I was very, very right about Minny’s mini offense. It is not good at all. you can talk all you want about ppg (even though their offense was only putting up about 18/game prior to yesterday), but as I stated the running game is really bad and overall it is a bottom 5 unit. The defense is the real deal and will put them in position to win a lot of games.

          • Alex Carpenter

Their OL didn’t play well on the road with guys playing new positions. That’s something that can better with time playing together and the coaches game planning better for. With the leagues best defense we don’t need an outstanding offense. Although we get some better OL play there’s no reason we can’t be an above average offense like we’ve seen in 5 games. I’m happy you’re putting more emphasis on 1 game compared to the other 5. Shows how big of a recency bias you have and I can tell you’re an outsider that doesn’t actually follow the team. This is just going to make the Dallas loss when they come here even worse for you.

          • Jeff

Shall I judge them after back to back crappy games? Is that still a recency bias?

        • Jeff

Update Minnesota actual offensive ppg: 16.83, forcing absolutely no one to fear any aspect of it’s attack, which is ranked dead last in yards/carry, 2nd to last in yards/game rushing, 26th in passing y/gm, 31st in total y/gm, 31st in y/play…at least there is still the Niners!

        • Jeff

And now that offense is really looking bad. I mean, after Philly it was 16.83 in terms of actual offensive output…now, after getting throttled by the mighty Bears, 15.85!

        • Jeff

Feeling good two weeks later. Maybe it was less of a prediction and simply more of an objective insight. I didn’t start the irrational homer talk. That came form the Vikings fans. I have just been having fun trolling you with facts. Fact: the Vikings have a good defense and a piss-poor offense. The defense isn’t the 85 Bears or 00 Ravens. It isn’t good enough to overcome the horrible offense.

    • Thor

No, the Vikings are just bad. They were horrendously overrated and have cratered back to earth. The Packers look fairly bad as well. This is now the Lions division to lose.

  • Jason Williams

Psst. Just because the Vikings have been in fewer prime time games doesn’t mean they aren’t as good as the cowboys. They are. Better.

    • enai D

I doubt that anyone seriously believes the Cowboys are better than the Vikings.

      • Jeff

I’m sorry, but I missed the Viking impressive wins? Who have they destroyed? They haven’t played an offense anywhere near the Cowboys’ caliber. Dallas will shut down Diggs (like they have OBJ, Nelson, Green, Jackson, etc.) and the Vikes have no running game. just a week ago it was about how GB’s great run defense was going to stop the Dallas ground attack….how’d that turn out? I respect the Vikings defense but that is all they have.

        • Alex Carpenter

“They haven’t played an offense anywhere near the Cowboys’ caliber.” Wrong. Do you realize Carolina is averaging more yards and points a game than Dallas? And that’s with a game only scoring 10pts against MN. You probably don’t because you’re a homer and can’t see past your beloved Cowboys. A better question is what defense has Dallas played? Not one in the top 10 for ppg. Why don’t you look at some stats and facts before your spout off about things you don’t know.

          • Jeff

So who have the Panthers beat this year? The Bucs held that mighty Carolina offense to 14 points two weeks after the Minny game. And I did not criticize the Minnesota defense; in fact, I think it is the best in the NFL this year. However, Minny and Dallas have two common opponents, NYG and GB. Dallas played the Giants in game one with a rookie QB and RB starting their first games and lost. Minn got NYG a few weeks later and spanked them. Advantage Vikings. Minn played GB at home in week 2, squeaking out a victory in part due to GB not kicking a FG when they had the chance. Dallas played @ GB and thrashed them in every facet of the game last week.

I think it will be a very good game, but if both teams are healthy, I am taking the Cowboys even on the road.

          • Alex Carpenter

Of course you would haha because you’re a delusional homer. So you’re going to use Dak’s first game as an excuse but criticize Bradford for only scoring 17pts in a game that he won against the Pack? Seems like you’re obviously just seeing the things that you want to see that help your own argument. So how I see it with common opponents the Vikings are 2-0 and Dallas is 1-1.

          • Jeff

So a rookie in his first game against a former #1 pick who has started, what, 50 NFL games? You are right, let’s call them even.

          • Alex Carpenter

So if you want to use the excuse of rookie QB about a game but then you are saying how much better Dallas’s offense is with that Rookie? Don’t you realize how you’re contradicting yourself? Come one man haha

          • Jeff

Just saying it has gotten better as he has gained some NFL experience. You viking fans really get worked up don’t you? Must be a lack of rings or something.

          • Thinkaboutit

That rookie had a full offseason to learn the offense, Bradford had 7 days.

          • Jeff

So what is Bradford’s excuse now?

        • enai D

They’ve destroyed everyone they’ve played. The only close game, vs. the Packers, was misleading- without all the boneheaded PI penalties by Waynes, the Packers don’t score in that game. They had 0 scoring drives that weren’t bailed out by multiple penalties.

And lol @ “defense is all they have”. 11th best offensive DVOA. 5th best in special teams. The Vikings are the most complete team in the league. The Cowboys are looking alot like the Eagles 2.0: a team that is better than expected, but not near as good as their early record suggests. A few more weeks and they will be exposed, just like what happened to the Eagles the last two weeks.

          • Thor

The ‘most complete team in the league’ looks like hot garbage right now against Philly. To be fair, Philly also looks terrible today.

          • Jeff

Calling the Vikings “hot garbage” is an insult to sunbathing trash everywhere!

          • Jeff

            And looks even worse tonight.

          • Jeff

And today this statement has been shown for what it is….a short term assessment that can no longer be a viable claim. The mighty Eagles, who couldn’t stop the Skins or Lions’ mighty offenses, is making the Vikings offense look like a college team.

          • Jeff

Care to adjust your stats for the Vikings’ offense? They are pathetic! And, btw, nice Eagles comment! Nothing like arrogance!

      • Jeff

Pro Football Focus does…. But I guess they don’t know anything.

        • enai D

No, they listed them as such in a click-bait article. That’s obviously not the same as “seriously believing” something. And since they do actually watch football, my comment applies even more to them- there’s exactly a 0% chance they actually think the Cowboys are better.

          • Thor

The Vikings look like hot garbage today, care to rethink this?

          • Jeff

Still think Minny is better than the Cowboys? Man you have gotten quiet since Philly spanked you guys…and now the Bears. Ouch that has to just kill a Viking homer like yourself.

      • Thor

At this point, the question might be : are the Vikings better than the Bucs or Bengals? They’re looking like a bottom-feeder.

    • Thor

I don’t think anyone should discount either team, as the records prove both are well above average. That said, you have to look at who they’ve played. An early criticism of Dallas is that they haven’t ‘played anyone’. If that’s the rule, then the same applies to the Vikings.

Vikings : beat the crappy Titans, beat Green Bay (a solid team) by a small margin, beat the Panthers who we all know are actually terrible this year, spanked the Giants, who we also know have had serious troubles, and the Texans, who are something of a joke. No Seahawks, Falcons, Patriots caliber teams in the bunch.

Cowboys : lost to the Giants in a squeaker with the help of a WR who didn’t know how to get OOB with seconds remaining and starting two green rookies. Beat the mediocre Redskins (who have gone on to win 4 straight), blew out the crappy Bears, solidly beat the crappy 49ers, blew out the Bengals (who the critics were claiming would beat Dallas with ease, and the game was far more of a beating than 28-14 would suggest), and beat the clearly overrated Packers with dominance from the offense, and solid effort from the defense. No Seahawks, Falcons, or Patriots caliber teams in that bunch either.

Given what we know about all of their opponents thus far, I’d say neither has proven themselves invincible or worthy of being lauded as serious monsters after just 6 games. Look at ATL last year, riding on top of the world until it crumbled. This year’s Falcons look much guttier and ready to go harder in the paint. However, we have to reserve judgment on all of this, because claiming one team to be better than another without seeing them play one another is foolish.

It should be a great game IMHO. Dallas has shown a top offense in ball control, beasts at pushing the LOS, and a mediocre but spirited defense. The Vikings thus far have had a mediocre but spirited offense relying heavily on Sam Bradford really stepping up, and a defense playing their best week in and week out, looking like the real deal so far, but again, who have either team beat that says a real statement yet? Nobody imho. Basketcases and lower-tier trash.

      • Jason Williams

Vikings can and will throttle the Cowboys. Vikings are not only a better team – they are also a match up nightmare for Dallas.

        • Thor

Well that’s a mighty fine argument you have there. I prefer to wait and see how it actually plays out. What ‘great’ team has either team beaten so far this year anyway? Why did the Vikings barely beat the Packers?

          • Alex Carpenter

Hmmm maybe it was Bradford’s first game? Maybe it was the number of the penalty yards GB received? Or the lucky bounces got when GB fumbled multiple times and ended up getting the ball back? Maybe it was AP going down mid game? Maybe it was playing with an injured left tackle that needed season ending surgery after the game? Try watching the games.

          • Jeff

Your running game is better since AP went out….

          • Thor

All of that is interesting, and yes, I have watched every game this year of GB, the Vikings, Dallas, Philadelphia, the Pats, and a few others.

The point is, 6 games into a season is notoriously short to either proclaim a team amazing or terrible unless you have overwhelming evidence. It’s simply too early. Dallas is 5-1 and hasn’t played great opponents, so I am not anointing them of anything. Ditto the Vikings. The only common opponent so far is the Packers (at home for MIN, at GB for DAL). Who they both defeated.

My outlook is that it’s entirely foolish to declare that either team would do this or that in a matchup, or be overconfident in victory before the actual 4 quarters occur. Neither outcome would surprise me, and given the results every Sunday, that shouldn’t surprise anyone else either, as every week there are a few games that even the BEST game pickers whiff on. It would be boring if the outcomes were all predetermined anyway, and how often have we seen teams with great season starts fizzle, or teams with poor starts really get hot as things go along? Basically every season, and I’m not saying either the Cowboys or Vikings will fizzle. I’m not even saying that you’re one of the people claiming one team winning before the game is even played, but a lot of people are, for either team. That’s just asinine and stupid.

            Cheers.

        • Jeff

Vikings might, just might, want to beat the teams they play before Dallas. Like the Eagles and the Bears…oops, too late.

          • Jason Williams

what a weird turn of events… hard to figure.

          • Jeff

Do you still think the Vikings are a matchup nightmare for the Cowboys? Last night was the first time I have seen anyone run through the Vikings defense. That surprised me. They had looked very stout against Murray and Miller earlier.

          • Jason Williams

The Vikings only look like a nightmare to themselves right now. Fans in Green Bay have to be giddy.

          • Jeff

Yep, Minny has definitely created hope for the Pack. Better get it figured out pdq.

          • Jeff

And now Turner is gone. Will that help the offense right away?

          • Jason Williams

TBH I thought Sam Bradford was performing better than my expectations for him through five weeks. I cant see how changing coordinators is going to help that.

      • Jeff

CB could have been in a tie game with Minny but went for it on 4th down instead of kicking the FG. That was an even game….in Minnesota. Dallas just kicked the crud out of GB on their home turf after destroying the Bengals.

        • Thinkaboutit

You lost to the giants at home… Im reading all of your posts and ive yet to see a valid point.

          • Thor

Then the Giants lost to a very out-of-sync GB team 16 to 23, while Dallas beat the same out-of-sync GB team 30 to 16. With that in mind, it seems more likely that two rookies starting their first-ever NFL game probably needed a bit of time to get rolling at Pro levels.

          • Jeff

            Wait….logic being used? Scary!

          • Jeff

But, you gotta admit, these Vikings fans are fun to mess with. Guessing alcohol sales will soar after this game, if they didn’t at halftime! Lots of prescription meds this week in Minny!

          • Thor

Rational fans I have no problem with, but some people are just rabid. I tried to make the point that the Vikings 5-0 record might be a bit of a mirage considering the bad offensive numbers for MIN and terrible opponent quality overall. Saying the truth seemed to not go over well with kool-aid drinkers. There are no superbowl champs in week 6, especially when there are serious holes that are obvious to anyone with eyeballs or a brain.

    • Thor

Vikings getting ready to drop their 2nd in a row.

      TO THE BEARS.

      Overrated.

      • Jason Williams

yah the Vikings are all of a sudden looking like the Falcons from last year. Hard to figure.

    • Jeff

Wayyyyyy overrated. The offense is simply pitiful.

      • Jason Williams

hard to argue given the last 2 weeks.

        • Thor

Records can be deceiving, your other response referencing the 2015 Falcons was apt. This is why I protested a bit on making any proclamations before we got to actually see the games played and season play out a bit more. The Vikings games when they reached 5-0 were not outstanding Ws (imho looking at the factors at play).

I really do think the league not knowing in week 2 just how bad the Panthers are this year, or how troubled GB was for the first chunk of the season (this also discounts the Cowboys win a bit, though to be fair 30-16 is better than 17-14). But overall, the Vikings defense was covering up for a truly horrendous offense, and it was only a matter of time before they ran into problems. Once a quality defense was encountered, they were shut down and not able to play from short fields and that caused their defense to constantly be rushed back to the field. The final result of exhaustion really hit stride vs the Bears, giving up over 150 yards on the ground and just generally getting pounded. Bradford was sacked 5 times.

I’ll make a bold prediction looking at the schedule and say that the Vikings finish at 9-7 and miss the playoffs. This weekend vs the Lions (at home) will be a critical game, but I’m leaning Lions on this one. GB I believe will have a resurgence, Rodgers has found his rhythm/mojo once more, and though his team has a pretty pathetic roster in many areas due to injury depletion, I think they will reach the goal line and wrap up the NFC North. AR can potentially be dangerous in the playoffs if they figure something out for a running game.

Atlanta I think is the odds-on #1 challenger to Dallas for the NFC title this year. Outstanding offense, bad defense. If they can get ahead quickly and force teams to play from behind, they can get a W against anybody. Their achilles is, if a few drives flounder on penalties or solid defensive play on the opposing team, then the other team scores on their easy defense, then the shoe is on the other foot, and we’ve seen that happen with their losses so far. But the season is long, their defense could certainly improve.

Philly is a definite possibility for a wildcard. They have a better fundamental defense than the Vikings by a long shot where it matters. Great corners + average D line will wear down. Great D line + average corners = better sustainable success. They also get Lane Johnson back late in the year, which will easily increase Wentz’s protection and running game.

Distant potential but probably out : Vikings, Giants, Redskins, Cardinals, Lions. But hey, it’s a long season, let’s see what happens.

  • Thinkaboutit

Should be fun watching the inevitable fall of Dallas. Its not enough that i always have to hear about them when they suck, we will see what happens when they face a real team.

    • Johnny

They just played the Packers, who PFF ranks 7th.

      • Daniel C.

and has a injured secondary and turned it over 4 times. GB isnt as good as some think.

        • Johnny

They still have a good front 7 that allowed 157 from Zeke. If you can do that to a top 5 run D then you’re pretty good.

        • Flash_Cyborg2

To be fair, Vikings haven’t beaten anyone either if we’re judging the teams by the same criteria

          • Thor

Absolutely what I’ve been saying, Vikings have been overrated. They are looking like hot garbage against Philly right now. PHILLY.

  • Jason Williams

    Pff does.

  • Blahblah

This is actually sort of right but how did the Vikings jump 7 spots in a bye week?

  • Josh Pate

Green Bay has lost 8 of its last 15. But they are “seventh” in power ratings. LMAO

Wake up peeps. Packers not good.

  • Mike Weisel

They mentioned it on the podcast, that they realized, just the grades was not good at determining how good a team is.

  • Mike Blackmon

The cowboys offense is relatively unstoppable, and the D is solid.. secondary might be the best in football by seasons end. I don’t see the the cowboys scoring less than 20 points a game the rest of the season, and they def won’t give up 20 against the vikes. You do the math…
