Panthers believe they can use Devin Funchess more

  • Panthers HC Ron Rivera said about Funchess' 2016 season that, “we could have used him better.” Rivera also says Funchess has showed he can be used more and has shown, “confidence in what he’s doing.”
  • Funchess posted the worst drop rate among receivers with at least 50 targets last season, dropping 6 of his 29 catchable balls. On the 23 he did catch, he was able to average 4.7 yards after the catch, best on the team.
  • None of Funchess’s drops came on deep passes (20+ yards), where he caught all 4 of his catchable targets, two of them resulting in touchdowns.
  • Funchess played 44% of the Panthers offensive snaps last season, fourth on the team among the receivers. With the losses of Ted Ginn and Corey Brown, it looks like there's a good chance he will be on the field more in 2017 but he will have to compete for targets with some of the new additions to the team.
