  • The Oakland Raiders had a special guest at their OTAs this week in former All-Pro WR Calvin Johnson. Offensive coordinator Todd Downing worked with Johnson in Detroit where he was an assistant coach from 2009-13.
  • WR Amari Cooper spent a considerable amount of time Tuesday talking with Johnson, looking to gain any knowledge he can from the three-time All-Pro receiver. Johnson retired in 2016 after nine seasons in the NFL.
  • Cooper struggled with drops his rookie season, dropping 18-of-90 catchable balls in 2015, the highest total in the league. He improved dramatically in 2016 dropping only 4-of-87 catchable passes.
  • Cooper has become one of the NFL’s best deep threats, finishing eighth in 2016 with 386 yards receiving on passes targeted at least 20 yards downfield. He caught 11-of-18 deep targets, a 61 percent catch rate that ranked him sixth among all receivers with at least 10 deep targets.
