‘No progress’ in Kirk Cousins extension talks

  • According to a report by Mike Jones of the Washington Post, there has been no progress on Kirk Cousins’ contract talks, and there haven’t been any intense negotiations going on. The two sides have until the July 15 deadline to determine whether a second straight franchise tag will be assigned to the signal-caller.
  • Cousins, who has the second-most passing yards in football over the last two years, finished the 2016 campaign with an overall grade of 85.9, which ranked him eighth of all quarterbacks in the league.
  • In both 2015 and 2016, Cousins ranked top-10 among quarterbacks in passing yards, overall grade, passing grade, completions, and PFF’s passer rating. In 2015, he ranked second in the league with an adjusted completion percentage of 78.5 percent and he finished eighth in 2016 with 76.3 percent.
  • From Week 6 on, Cousins’ had the second most deep ball attempts while posting the fourth-highest adjusted completion percentage on deep passes.

LOL. So sad that you Niners fans actually believed that garbage. Just begging for another teams scraps. Such a great place to be as a franchise!

It is ashame and a disgrace the way the Redskins front office is handling the contract situation with Kurt Cousins, VOP Bruce Allen is a cancer within the organization. Growing up my family were diehard Redskins fans, i myself was not. However i had a great respect for the franchise, as then it was a first class organization. The late, great George Allen has to be turning over in his grave at the absolute mess Bruce Allen has made of that once proud franchise. Cousins is a former 4th round pick that worked hard and has earn the title of franchise QB, the money that the organization is wasting on franchising Cousins could be used to continue adding talent to the roster. HC Jay Gruden is just as egotistical and has benefited from his brother John Grudens name. Both Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay are the ones responsible for the evolution of Kirk Cousins, then the disgusting way Allen fired former GM Scot McCloughlan is just shameful. Cousins will end up being traded to San Francisco, leaving the Redskins searching for a QB in the draft. True Redskin fans deserve better than this, owner Dan Synder should sell the franchise and the new ownership should come in and clean house. Allen thought so little of McCloughlan, yet used his expertise to sign free agents, then used his draft board after firing him on some lame rumor that he relapsed. Which i find to be total BS, not one player came forth to say that McCloughlan was seen at any time druck or under the influence. Quite the contrary, the players said they were shocked, and supported McCloughlan. Unfortunately for the fans it will only get worse before it gets better, Allen is running the organization into the ground.

I think both sides will get a deal done. The Redskins obviously have been cautious wanting to avoid the situation the Bears found themselves in when they gave Cutler and huge long term deal and got basically nothing back in the way of quality play.

Your joking right? Im not a Redskins fan or Kirk Cousins, but to compare Cousins to Jay Cutler is an insult. Cousins was drafted by the Redskins, not traded for. Cutler has never had the type of passer rating or yardage, or tds for that matter. Cutler never had that type of efficiency, physical Cutler is and has been one of the most talented QB in the NFL. But after that, save a few seasons when he was younger. He has done nothing, Cousins went from 4th round pick to starting QB because he earned it. Its universally recognized that Cousins is a franchise QB, where outside of Skip Bayless there wasn’t many who thought Cutler should have been given that type of contract. Bruce Allen is a cancer on the Redskins organization, you said both sides will get a deal done. If that were the case it would already be done, its not because Cousins isn’t staying in Washington. Allen has already talked about franchising Cousins a 3rd year, and he isn’t going to sign. It won’t matter anyways, if the Redskins were to do so. If would eat up a large chunk of their cap space, and they signed a boatload of guys to 1 year contracts.

We’ll see how this plays out but I’m still betting they get a deal done.
