Minnesota remains noncommittal on starting RB

  • When asked who will start at running back in 2017, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said “We’ve got a long way to go before we make any determinations on that.”
  • The Vikings added backs in both free agency (Latavius Murray) and the draft (Dalvin Cook), and while Murray has proven NFL experience, Cook provides a much higher ceiling.
  • In 2016 at Florida State, Cook broke 92 tackles, 16 more than any other back in the nation.
  • Cook also averaged 4.2 yards per carry after contact behind some suspect blocking, the second-best mark in the draft class.
  • Murray, by contrast, has only broken 73 tackles in his entire NFL career, over 555 carries, and while he scored 13 rushing touchdowns in 2016, he did it behind one of the game’s best offensive lines, but could only come out of the year with a PFF grade of 73.1.

Where was Fournette on the list of broken tackles? Not very high it would seem.
