Michael Thomas reportedly adds 10 pounds of muscle

  • Per Joel Erickson at The New Orleans Advocate, Michael Thomas packed on 10 pounds of muscle this offseason, going from 210 pounds to 220 at 6-foot-3.
  • If Thomas is targeting an improvement in physicality after catching the ball, he’s aiming to clear an already-high bar he’s set for himself. He had 20 tackles either broken or avoided in 2016, good for fourth-best among 114 WRs to play at least 25 percent of team snaps at the position.
  • Thomas also had 5.2 yards after catch per reception, tied for 27th out of the same 114 WRs, and the second-best mark for the Saints WRs behind Willie Snead.
  • The Saints traded Brandin Cooks to the Patriots, and signed former Panthers WR Ted Ginn Jr., which moves Thomas into the WR1 role in New Orleans’ offense.
  • Ginn caught 44.4 percent of his 18 targets of 20 yards or more, which was just below Cooks’ 45.8 percent on 24 such targets. Thomas caught 63.6 percent of the deep passes directed his way, but was only targeted deep 11 times.
