Jets trade S Calvin Pryor to Browns

  • Mike Garafolo reported Thursday morning that the Jets are trading safety Calvin Pryor to the Browns. In return, the Jets will be receiving LB Demario Davis, who was drafted by the Jets and spent the first four years of his career in New York.
  • Since entering the league as the Jets 18th overall pick in 2014, Pryor has seen his overall grade drop each year, and his 68.7 grade last season ranked 74th out of 90 qualified safeties.
  • Known as a physical, hard-hitting safety out of college, Pryor has struggled with missed tackles during his short tenure in the NFL. In 2016, Pryor finished tied for 85th among 108 qualified safeties with a combined tackling efficiency of 6.3 (tackling efficiency measures the number of attempted tackles per missed tackled). His struggles are especially pronounced in the run game, where he has 30 career stops to 23 missed tackles.
  • Interestingly, Pryor posted the ninth-best coverage grade among safeties in 2015 with a grade of 82.5. In 2016, however, Pryor saw his coverage grade drop to 58.2 while allowing the 14th-most receiving yards when in coverage among safeties.
