Jaguars bring in linebacker Sam Barrington for workout

  • In 2016, Barrington played six special team snaps with the Chiefs before going on to appear in 65 more with the Saints, where he primarily worked on kick returns, punt coverage, and punt return teams.
  • Barrington’s most extensive experience at linebacker came in 2014 when he was involved in 485 snaps with the Packers. His overall grade of 43.7 that season ranked 70th out of 94 qualifying linebackers.
  • Two areas where Barrington did show promise that season, however, were as a pass-rusher and coverage defender.
  • Barrington ranked fifth amongst 57 eligible linebackers in pass-rushing production in 2014 with five total QB pressures on 20 pass-rushing snaps.
  • The 0.77 yards he allowed per coverage snap tied for 21st amongst 57 eligible linebackers in 2014, and his 11.6 coverage snaps per reception figure tied for 25th.
  • While the Jaguars are set in terms of starters at linebacker, Barrington’s experience in a meaningful role — along with special-teams versatility — could make him an intriguing player to sign.
