- Like Darrelle Revis and Aqib Talib before him, expectations are high for new Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who became one of the highest-paid players at his position this offseason.
- Gilmore, however, doesn’t appear too worried, telling local media, “There’s only pressure if you make it. You just go out and work hard and do your job and rely on each other, trust each other. If we do that, I think we’ll be good.”
- One of those players Gilmore will be relying on is fellow standout cornerback Malcolm Butler. The two players combined to get their hands on 27 passes (9 interceptions, 18 passes defensed) in 2016, giving the Patriots a great chance to create positive plays for their defense in the secondary.
- Both Gilmore and Butler ranked in the top 10 among cornerbacks in PFF’s Playmaker Index, which measures how often a player records either an interception or pass breakup when targeted in coverage.
