Could Jets rookie WR ArDarius Stewart start in 2017?

  • Rich Cimini of ESPN projects ArDarius Stewart as a starter in 2017.
  • Stewart dominated out of the slot at Alabama in 2016. He ranked fourth in the draft class (among receivers with at least 20 targets out of the slot) with an average of 3.56 yards per route run out of the slot; his 78.6 catch rate ranked eighth.
  • Stewart ranked 13th among 109 qualified draft-eligible receivers with a 50.0 catch rate on deep passes (balls thrown at least 20 yards in the air). He caught seven of 14 deep targets for 284 yards and a touchdown.
  • The Jets’ coaches are said to be in love with Stewart’s toughness. He ranked fourth among all FBS receivers last season with an average of 10.7 yards after contact per reception, and second in the draft class with a 33.3 missed tackle percentage (total missed tackles divided by receptions).
  • Stewart also shows off his physicality in the run game. He is a fearless and physical blocker, earning a PFF run-blocking grade of 71.5, which ranked 24th out of 286 qualified receivers in 2016.
