Chargers release LG Orlando Franklin

  • The Los Angeles Chargers have released LG Orlando Franklin. The 29-year-old signed a free agent deal with the Chargers in 2015 after being drafted by the Broncos in 2011 and spending four seasons in Denver.
  • Franklin began his career playing right tackle in Denver before switching to left guard in 2014. He was one of the better guards in the NFL that season, finishing second in PFF's pass-blocking efficiency, having allowed only one sack and 11 total QB pressures.
  • Franklin's career took a downturn after signing with the Chargers in 2015, missing six games that season with various injuries. He started all 16 games in 2016, but has struggled to regain his form. He allowed 40 total QB pressures last year, the fourth-highest total among all guards.
  • The Chargers also released veteran offensive linemen King Dunlap and DJ Fluker in March, and will look to rebuild their offensive line with youth in 2017.
