Carroll’s arrest could deplete an already-depleted secondary

  • After a Monday morning DUI arrest for the cornerback, the Cowboys could be without Nolan Carroll for at least part of 2017 pending disciplinary action from the team or league.
  • After having PFF’s top-ranked secondary in 2016, the Cowboys lost Brandon Carr, Morris Claiborne, Barry Church, and J.J. Wilcox in free agency – or a combined 2,645 regular season snaps between them.
  • To replenish, Dallas drafted cornerbacks Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis in the second and third rounds, respectively, of this year’s draft. The team also signed Carroll away from the Eagles.
  • Awuzie led all cornerbacks in 2015 with 41 tackles resulting in a defensive stop.
  • On 57 deep targets (20-plus yards downfield) in 2016, Lewis allowed just seven completions and snagged six interceptions.
  • The Cowboys need all the secondary depth help they can get after losing 49.7 percent of a very talented unit.
