Bucs WR Chris Godwin ‘consistently made the most plays’ at OTAs

  • It was clear this offseason that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers wanted to give QB Jameis Winston some playmakers. They added WR DeSean Jackson, first-round pick TE O.J. Howard and third-round pick WR Chris Godwin to the offense.
  • According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, former Penn State WR Godwin has impressed head coach Dirk Koetter and his quarterback.
  • Godwin lined up solely on the outside in Joe Moorhead’s offense for the Nittany Lions, seeing just two percent of his snaps in the slot. In an incredibly balanced passing attack, Godwin still ranked 45th in the class in yards per route run.
  • Godwin did not perform as well after the catch. He only broke nine tackles and averaged 4.5 yards after the catch.
  • Where Godwin consistently wins is at the catch point – he ranked 10th in the WR class in deep pass receptions (14) and 13th in deep pass yards (504).
  • Not to be overlooked is his 10th ranked run blocking grade among all NCAA wide receivers.

Expecting a nice sized leap for Winston this year if his O-Line can keep him clean. He has more than enough weapons now, so it’s just a question of if his protection holds up.
