- Denver Broncos first year head coach Vance Joseph said he plans to use a running back committee for the upcoming 2017 season. Joseph was quoted as saying “You need two or three guys that can carry the load. It is no longer a one-guy position.” Newly signed veteran Jamaal Charles figures to compete with incumbent backs C.J. Anderson and Devontae Booker for playing time in 2017.
- Now entering his 10th season, Charles has been limited to just eight games over the past two seasons due to knee issues, but is one of the most elusive backs when healthy as he sported a 55.8 elusive rating in 2014, which would have been good for fifth in 2016.
- Anderson was having a productive 2016 season when a knee injury in Week 7 ended his year after only seven games. Perhaps Anderson figures to be the favorite for passing-down looks as his 79.1 pass-block grade on 32 pass-block snaps in 2016 was higher than Booker’s 73.8 grade on 59 pass-block snaps and Charles’ 72.8 grade on 62 pass-block snaps (in 2014).
- While Anderson was active through Week 7 last season, Booker had an elusive rating of 40.3 only to have it fall to 18.2 from Week 8 on after Anderson went on the injured reserve.
