5 things to know for Wednesday

during their game at MetLife Stadium on December 5, 2016 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Hey football fans, here are five things you need to know to begin your Wednesdays:

  1. PFF continues to countdown its top 50 players for the upcoming season. PFF Senior Analyst Sam Monson keeps the list going with players 30 through 21. Joe Thomas and Trent Williams are both among the top 50 now, but another tackle is ranked ahead of them. Quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Andrew Luck are both among the latest 10 as well, and are ranked one right before the other.
  2. We also have the longest tenured NFC players. Josh Liskiewitz brings us the list of the “old timers.” As opposed to the AFC list, which only included two quarterbacks, no fewer than five NFC teams have quarterbacks as their longest-tenured players. One team managed to have its longest-tenured player date back only to 2013.
  3. The Jets released LB David Harris. Harris was the longest-tenured Jet before yesterday, when he was released. Despite his long stay with the team, Harris was still a top option at inside linebacker when defending the pass.
  4. Andrew Luck still isn't throwing the football, and there isn't a timetable for him to begin throwing again. Even though the reports are that he played most of the year with a shoulder injury, Luck still had an excellent 2016 season, especially throwing the ball deep.
  5. Fantasy writer Tyler Buecher brought us five possible breakout running backs. Among his list are players on new teams, young players still waiting to make an impact, and even a seventh-year back who sneakily played most of his team's snaps after the bye week last year.
