  • In the 49ers’ switch away from the 3-4 defense, LB Ahmad Brooks will play strong side linebacker in 2017.
  • Brooks has finished each of the past three seasons with overall grades south of 60.0. His lowest overall grade ever in a season prior to this stretch was his rookie season in 2006 when he put up a 71.5 overall grade.
  • With the Bengals his first two seasons, Brooks was used as a middle/inside linebacker. In his rookie season in 2006, Brooks recorded a stop percentage of 9.6 percent, ranking 15th out of 48 inside linebackers that played at least 100 run snaps.
  • Brooks has shown to be competent in coverage, which he’ll likely need to do more of as a strong side linebacker. His coverage grade of 72.4 ranked fifth last year out of edge defenders with at least 100 coverage snaps.
