PFF Week: Up North, Week 13

PFF-Week-Up-NorthIt’s your last chance to get caught up on the happenings at PFF before the next slate of games is upon us, and our new ‘PFF Week’ posts provide quick access to the week that was. The ‘Up North’ edition covers all things pertaining to the AFC and NFC North divisions for a one-stop Saturday shop built to keep you in the loop and on top of your football-watching game.

It’s one of the golden weekends for NFL fans as many enjoy an extended time off with the chance to enjoy some leftovers with quality football. The members of the PFF staff have shaken off their food comas and are spending extra time in their film rooms to get ready for the homestretch. This is a great time as the quality teams position themselves for their playoff runs and the lower tier take on the role of spoilers with grim determination.

Wrapping up Week 12

This was a make or break week for a few teams in the AFC/ NFC North who were harboring playoff hopes. The Steelers pretty much shut the door on the Browns with Ben Roethlisberger moving to 16-1 vs. this division rival. The Ravens held off a less than impressive effort by the Jets dimming theirs and the Bengals simply enjoyed it all on their bye week. In the NFC North, Packers fans saw their fourth different quarterback take the field in a rare tie to the Vikings. The Bears playoff chances took a big hit when they were run over, under and through by the Rams. The Lions endured an embarrassing home loss to the Buccaneers as they were done in by -5 turnovers. The ReFocused articles are available right here for you to enjoy.

As a result of the games the PFF Power Rankings were shaken up at the top and bottom of the rankings and only one team from the North’s managed to make top ten of the rankings. Neil Hornsby continues to track the top special teams players in the league in The Third Phase with this week’s top player coming from the AFC North. This week’s 32 Observations by Nathan Jahnke forms an All Pro team with one member from every team backed by a key stat for each player. The PFF Team of the Week features seven players out of the AFC/NFC North’s while the ‘Had a Bad Day’ Team is stocked with nine players. The Race for Rookie of the Year update brought to you thanks to Khaled Elsayed has a pair of rookies from the NFC North along with one from the AFC North for you to check out. This week’s Analysis Notebook by Sam Monson covers the surging play of the Rams Robert Quinn in 2013. Also each week PFF highlights a Signature Stat and this week Rick Drummond takes the macro point of view on Pass Rush Productivity and combines individual efforts for a team defensive ranking.

Week 13…The Best of Both Worlds

This is a unique week as six teams are enjoying the extra rest (or simply trying to recover from some cold weather injuries) from playing on a short week. That means you the fan, can instantly transition from a Three to Focus On piece to a ReFocused article while the game is still fresh in your mind. The Lions mauled a short-staffed Packers team for their first Thanksgiving win since 2003. The Ravens and Steelers lived up to their rivalry status but both are trailing the Bengals who come out of their bye week against the Chargers. The Browns try to recover some of their pride against the Jaguars who are showing that despite a long season they haven’t put their helmets on the shelf. The Vikings hope to take advantage of a thin Bears defense that have some concerns with stopping the run.  For your convenience here are the previews for the Week 13 games as well as the ReFocused articles on the ones that have concluded.
