PFF Week: Out West, Week 8

PFF-Week-Out-WestIt’s your last chance to get caught up on the happenings at PFF before the next slate of games is upon us and our new ‘PFF Week’ posts provide quick access to the week that was. The ‘Out West' edition covers all things pertaining to the AFC and NFC West divisions for a one-stop Saturday shop built to keep you in the loop and on top of your football-watching game.

Not a bad week for the Wests as the two division combined to go 4-3 though there were a couple of disappointing performances in mixed in by the Rams and Broncos. As we always do in this space, we'll link you to all of the reviews, previews, and all of the other great PFF content that you crave.

Week 7 Wrap

In Week 7, the Chiefs' defense held strong against a surprisingly not-terrible Case Keenum, the Rams and Panthers racked up nearly $50,000 in fines in their game in Carolina, and Peyton Manning's homecoming didn't go exactly as he planned it to. All of the best (and worst) performances are broken down in our Week 7 ReFocused articles.

In Mike Renner's latest look at our Signature Stats, he dives into Run Stop Percentage for ILBs and a number of big names come out on top through the first seven weeks. 32 Observations identifies a player for each team who has made a big leap forward this season including players like Philip Rivers and Chris Long. The Seahawks' Malcolm Smith is highlighted as one of Week 7's Secret Superstars partly for having the second-best OLB Run Stop Percentage of Week 7. Denver's Kayvon Webster was one of the highest-graded special teams players of Week 7 and received the credit he deserves from our Thomas Maney in The Third Phase. Despite their loss to the Colts, the Broncos remain at the top our Power Rankings though one of our rankers placed the Broncos second behind the Saints.

Looking Ahead to Week 8

The only West team not favored in its Week 8 matchup is the Oakland Raiders who are slight home underdogs to an improving Steelers squad. The Wests should take care of business and put at least four wins on the board in their six games. San Francisco has to travel all the way to London just to spank the Jaguars, the Broncos and Redskins could each put up 40+ points considering the poor state of their defenses, and the Chiefs host a solid Browns' team that unfortunately has chosen to start Jason Campbell this week. And lastly, in an NFC West divisional game, the Rams figure to struggle mightily against the Seahawks. It really is unfortunate that Sam Bradford got hurt in what turned out to be his highest-graded game of the season.
