PFF Week: Out West, Week 3

PFF-Week-Out-WestIt’s your last chance to get caught up on the happenings at PFF before the next slate of games is upon us and our new ‘PFF Week’ posts provide quick access to the week that was. The ‘Out West' edition covers all things pertaining to the AFC and NFC West divisions for a one-stop Saturday shop built to keep you in the loop and on top of your football-watching game.

In Week 2, we had a couple of high-profile games fall short of the hype (Manning Bowl, 49ers-Seahawks), we had a few lower-profile games decided in the final few minutes (Lions-Cardinals, Chargers-Eagles, Cowboys-Chiefs), and a pair of non-descript games with Jaguars-Raiders and Rams-Falcons.

Week 2 Wrap

Week 2's batch of ReFocused articles highlights the contiuning dominance of the Rams' Robert Quinn, struggles for a traditionally good 49ers' offensive line, and a number of strong performances by… the Raiders? Let's recap another busy week in the West divisions with our ReFocused articles for every West game.

ReFo: Lions @ Cardinals, Week 2
ReFo: Jaguars @ Raiders, Week 2
ReFo: Cowboys @ Chiefs, Week 2
ReFo: Broncos @ Giants, Week 2
ReFo: Chargers @ Eagles, Week 2

Despite limited snaps, the Cardinals' Andre Ellington caught the eye of our Gordon McGuinness as Ellington appeared in his weekly Secret Superstars article. The always-popularPFF Team of the Week and ‘Had a Bad Day' pieces include a number of West players. Unfortunately for the Wests, more players were named in the Had a Bad Day piece than in the PFF Team of the Week article. Only Tyrann Mathieu made the Top 10 in the Week 2 edition of the Race for Rookie of the Year from either West division.

Looking Ahead to Week 3

The Wests look to build on their strong Week 2 showing in which they went a combined 5-1 in non-divisional games. They're off to a good start with the Chiefs beating the Eagles on Thursday night but have some tough matchups with games at New Orleans and at Dallas. Our PFF staff has you covered as they key on three matchups in each game to look out for.

PFF Pick'em: Week 3 has the picks for each game of Week 3. In his weekly Analysis Notebook, Sam Monson gives a great in-depth look at the Week 3 Thursday Night Football game between the Chiefs and Eagles by examining the creativity of the Chiefs' offense.

Additionally…

A number of West players are featured in the latest Palazzolo's Pitch where PFF's Steve Palazzolo takes a close look at some versatile big men including the Raiders' Lamar Houston and the Chargers' D.J. Fluker. Denver continues to carry the torch for the West divisions in PFF's Week 2 Power Rankings as they again land at No. 1 overall. Nathan Jahnke has some great stats on all 32 NFL teams in his weekly 32 Observations article. Two NFC West players made Neil Hornsby's Top 5 special-teamers in his The Third Phase article, a weekly series focusing on the top special-teamers from the previous week's games.

As always, our Premium Stats are the best way to stay informed and impress your friends with your curiously vast knowledge of the Chargers' right guard play and all other NFL players.

That puts on a bow on all things AFC and NFC West this week. These two divisons have their work cut out for them with another tough slate of games coming up in Week 3.
