PFF Week: Down South, Week 17

PFF-Week-Down-SouthIt’s your last chance to get caught up on the happenings at PFF before the next slate of games is upon us, and our new ‘PFF Week’ posts provide quick access to the week that was. The ‘Down South’ edition covers all things pertaining to the AFC and NFC South divisions for a one-stop Saturday shop built to keep you in the loop and on top of your football-watching game.

Week 16 Wrap

The Panthers came from behind to beat the Saints in Week 16 and lock themselves into the playoffs, The Saints meanwhile now have a win-and-in game against the Buccaneers, although they can still make the playoffs, even with a loss and some help. Meanwhile in the AFC, the Colts beat a team they may come up against in a week's time in the Chiefs and the Texans took another loss to guarantee a loss on Sunday wraps up the #1 pick. Of course our team broke down those games and the other games involving the South teams to give you the performances of note.

As usual our team didn't just review performances within each game, but how they stacked up around the league. To do this Khaled Elsayed released the PFF Team of the Week for the best performances from around the league. However where there is good, there is bad and so we also put together the ‘Had a Bad Day' Team for those who performance left a little to be desired.

Some players don't get the praise their performances deserve. They may be a situational player, outshone by a more famous team-mate or play a position that doesn't get the media attention. Gordon McGuinness looks to right this wrong by picking out four Secret Superstars. This week he picked out a running back in Detroit and defensive linemen in Oakland, Baltimore and Denver.

Looking to Week 17

In Week 17 the NFC South title will be decided, with a victory by the Panthers over the Falcons they will wrap up the title as well as a bye to the Divisional round of the playoffs. The Saints meanwhile will make the playoffs with a win over the Buccaneers and could take the division title with a Panthers' loss. Even with a loss the Saints can make the playoffs if the 49ers beat the Cardinals. Meanwhile in the AFC South the Colts have the division locked up and with help could get as high as the #2 seed in the AFC. Our team have previewed each of these games as well as the ones with no playoff implications to point out the areas that each game could be won or lost.
