PFF Roundup – Week 1

HillWe’ve made it to the regular season, finally. The final week of the preseason play gave us a good look at some of the backups and sleeper candidates for 2014. Here we will examine several articles from PFF Main and breakdown the insight they have to offer from a fantasy perspective.

Hill ready to handle his new role

The Bengals released BenJarvus Green-Ellis, paving the way for rookie running back Jeremy Hill to take on a meaningful role in Cincinnati’s offense in 2014. John Maney believes Hill is up to that task.

Maney complemented Hill on his blend of size and speed after the rookie’s final preseason game against the Colts. Hill rushed for 90 yards on 20 carries and caught six passes for 70 yards. His transition to the NFL is going smoothly so far.

However, Hill still has some work to do. He allowed a sack on one of his four pass blocking snaps against Indianapolis. It’s promising to see him succeed in extended action, though. He could become a viable flex play each week if the Bengals use him in the same role as they did with Green-Ellis last season.

If you’re in need of running back help, it’s probably a good time to target Hill in trades if he’s not available in your league. His usage is uncertain at the moment, but he’s a complement to Giovani Bernard on a team that wants to run the ball. Get him cheap before he proves himself.
