16.15 – Broncos at Colts Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Vontae Davis (+7.9), Robert Mathis (+6.4) and Von Miller (+4.5)
– The three lowest graded players were Stanley Havili (-4.5), Knownshon Moreno (-2.8) and both Chris Kuper and Kevin Vickerson (-2.7)
– What made Davis earn the highest grade we’ve ever given out for a cornerback? Well he broke up two passes (a third on a play nullified by a penalty), allowed only 3-of-8 catches into his coverage to be complete (all of which resulted in tackles for short gains) and was in close position in the other five so they ended up incomplete.
– An interesting day for Manning. His problems obviously came throwing deeper than 10 yards where he went 7-of-15.
– The return of Miller saw him feature on 71 of 75 snaps, pick up two hits and six hurries with two defensive stops in the run game.
16.00 – Ravens at Steelers Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Marshall Yanda (+5.4), David DeCastro (+3.6) and Kelechi Osemele (+3.4)
– The three lowest graded players were Heath Miller (-4.1), Jason Worilds (-2.6) and Arthur Jones (-2.0)
– A much easier time of things for Joe Flacco as the signing of Eugene Monroe brings immediate dividends. He was pressured on only 19.4% of plays, down on his season average of 37.2%.
– In the battle for playing time at outside linebacker for the Ravens Terrell Suggs led the way playing 58 snaps. Following him it was Elvis Dumervil with 34, Courtney Upshaw with 31 and Pernell McPhee with seven.
– Only two Steeler players (Worilds with two and Lamarr Woodley with four) had more than one pressure as the team notched up just nine combined.
15.30 – Browns at Packers Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Joe Thomas (+4.4), Davon House (+4.2) and Morgan Burnett (+2.9)
– The three lowest graded players were Craig Robertson (-4.7), Don Barclay (-4.6) and Buster Skrine (-4.0)
– Another rough outing for Brandon Weeden. His problems are readily evident as he completed just 26.7% of passes when he was pressured and earned an 11.8 QB rating here.
– Down two starting outside linebackers the Packers depth was severely tested. The end result was that the trio of Mike Neal, Nate Palmer and Andy Mulumba rushed the passer a combined 86 times and generated just seven quarterback disruptions between them.
– With Jabaal Sheard back rookie Barkevious Mingo featured on ‘just’ 42 snaps, picking up a hit and a hurry on 23 pass rushes.
15.00 – Rams at Panthers Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Sam Bradford (+4.5), Cam Newton (+4.3) and Star Lotulelei (+4.1)
– The three lowest graded players were Janoris Jenkins (-4.5), Trumaine Johnson (-4.0) and Ryan Kalil (-3.1)
– With one dropped pass Newton achieved a very impressive 94.1 adjusted accuracy percentage. He didn’t however throw one ball over 20 yards in the air.
– Not ideal work from the Rams starting sophomore cornerbacks. Combined they allowed 10-of-11 balls into their coverage for 144 yards and a touchdown.
– Lotulelei picked up five defensive stops on 15 snaps in the run game. That’s one on 33.3% of running plays for those keeping score.
14.30 – Bills at Dolphins Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Randy Starks (+6.6), Mario Williams (+4.5) and Jerry Hughes (+4.1)
– The three lowest graded players were Tyson Clabo (-4.6), Jim Leonhard (-4.4) and Charles Clay (-3.4)
– He’s not having the best of years is Tyson Clabo. He’s given up 32 quarterback disruptions already this year after allowing just 35 throughout the entire 2012 regular season.
– Keeping it conservative? Only 7-of-31 aimed passes by Thaddeus Lewis were thrown over 10 yards in the air.
– The Dolphins used 21 personnel on 10 plays, 12 personnel on 12 plays and 11 personnel on 39 plays.

13.30 – Injury Alert
The injuries just keep piling up for some teams. Seasons are over for both Reggie Wayne and Sam Bradford while Lance Briggs is likely to miss four to six weeks worth of action. What's more the Bears are sweating on news of a groin injury to Jay Cutler that could have huge ramifications in the NFC North. We advise you to tune in for our Next Man Up article later on this week once we've had time to digest the news and assess the replacements.
13.00 – 49ers at Titans Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Andy Levitre (+4.3), Akeem Ayers (+3.7) and Anquan Boldin (+2.9)
– The three lowest graded players were Alex Boone (-4.0), Brian Schwenke (-3.4) and Lavar Edwards (-2.7)
– This wasn’t a game where many tackles were broke. The Titans missed just three while the 49ers were at two on the day.
– In our weekly installment that looks at what Titans receivers are running routes, Kendall Wright led the team with 41. That was one more than Nate Washington with Damian Williams in third with 31. Kenny Britt was at 18 and Justin Hunter had just the nine.
– The 49ers used 11 personnel on just 13.4% of plays. Way down on the league average of 49% and even their own season average of 23.6%. Before anyone says this was down to running up a big lead it’s worth nothing they didn’t use this package until 7.35 in Q2.

12.00 – Chargers at Jaguars Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Austin Pasztor (+3.6), Johnnie Troutman (+3.3) and Mike Brown (+2.8)
– The three lowest graded players were Geno Hayes (-5.5), Alan Ball (-3.4) and Antonio Gates (-3.3)
– A ruthless display from Philip Rivers who had an adjusted accuracy percentage of 95.7%.
– The Jaguars are flirting more and more with a 3-4 defense. They used a 4-3 front on 25 snaps and a 3-4 one on 10.
– Injuries to King Dunlap and Mike Remmers meant D.J. Fluker filled in at left tackle for 53 snaps, holding up better at left than a number of the rookie tackles have done on the right side.
11.30 – Sig Stat Snapshot: Adjusted Accuracy %
Ah completion percentage. You got us so far in giving a quick idea of how accurate a quarterback was. But you didn't account for dropped passes, throw aways and spikes among other things. So we upgraded you and called you Adjusted Accuracy %. Is it perfect? No. But it's a heck of a lot better than anything else out there. Let's see who the most accurate guys for the week are so far.
1. Philip Rivers, SD: 95.7%
2. Josh McCown, CHI: 88.9%
3. Matt Ryan, ATL: 83.3%
4. Alex Smith, KC: 81.3%
5. Andy Dalton, CIN: 80.6%
11.00 – Cowboys at Eagles Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Jason Hatcher (+6.5), Sean Lee (+4.8) and both Jason Peters and Evan Mathis (+3.8)
– The three lowest graded players were Nick Foles (-7.3), Matt Barkley (-5.3) and Travis Frederick (-3.9)
– The Eagles spent 73 of 81 snaps in 11 personnel. For the year they’re averaging 80.1% whereas the league average is 49%.
– Another nine quarterback disruptions for Jason Hatcher on just 34 pass rushes. He’s up to 32 on the year, the second most of all defensive tackles.
– Rough day for both Eagles quarterbacks. Combined they attempted 22 passes over 10 yards in the air. Combined they completed just seven.
10.30 – Texans at Chiefs Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were J.J. Watt (+7.7), Mike Devito (+4.7) and Brian Cushing (+3.9)
– The three lowest graded players were Ed Reed (-4.4), Whitney Mercilus (-4.3) and Anthony Fasano (-3.6)
– On his debut Case Keenum had an adjusted accuracy percentage score of 69.6% though he did only attempt seven passes over 10 yards in the air and at times held onto the ball too long. His average time to throw was 3.25 seconds (Matt Schaub was at 2.74 and T.J. Yates at 2.83).
– While Tamba Hali walked away with two sacks he didn’t pick up any other pressure during the game on his 29 pass rushes. That meant Justin Houston (one sack, one hit and three hurries on 21 pass rushes) had a much better pass rushing productivity score (19.0 to 6.9).
– Dexter McCluster led the Chiefs with 3.33 yards per route run, with Dwayne Bowe second at 2.06. Meanwhile in Houston it was Andre Johnson leading the way with 2.97 from DeAndre Hopkins at 2.53.
10.00 – Sig Stat Snapshot: Yards per Route Run
We collect some pretty unique data and it allows us to create our own metrics which can all be viewed with a Premium membership. One of those “signature stats” is our yards per route run metric which evaluates the opportunity (by looking at how often a pass route is run) the receiver has. With that in mind and nine games up on the site for the week who has the most?
1. Harry Douglas, ATL: 5.73
2. A.J. Green, CIN: 4.43
3. Anquan Boldin, SF: 3.89
4. Eddie Royal, SD: 3.63
5. Marvin Jones, CIN: 3.35
09.30 – Bengals at Lions Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Andy Dalton (+4.4), Calvin Johnson (+4.0) and Carlos Dunlap (+3.2)
– The three lowest graded players were Ezekiel Ansah (-4.2), Brandon Pettigrew (-3.6) and Jermaine Gresham (-3.8)
– In a battle between two of the best at their position it was A.J. Green who averaged more yards per route run with 4.43 on his 35 to the 3.3 on 47 of the now healthy Calvin Johnson.
– In another battle between two of the best at their position we were slightly disappointed by the lack of fireworks from Geno Atkins (one pressure on 45 pass rushes) and Ndamukong Suh (three quarterback disruptions on 29 pass rushes). You might blame some of this on both men getting rid of the ball in 2.5 seconds or less on 70.6% (Matthew Stafford) and 66.7% (Andy Dalton).
– Continuing the trend of matching players up Giovanni Bernard was on the field for 28-of-60 snaps. All bar one of these were spent in the backfield. As for Reggie Bush he played 57-of-78 snaps of which nine were spent split out wide.
09.00 – Patriots at Jets Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Muhammed Wilkerson (+5.5), Devin McCourty (+4.5) and Joe Vellano (+4.0)
– The three lowest graded players were Tom Brady (-6.6), Ryan Wendell (-6.1) and Tommy Bohanon (-3.7)
– You can’t blame this one on the drops. There was just one of this week, instead being replaced by some off target throws. Brady completed just 5-of-20 passes aimed over 20 yards in the air with a terrible adjusted accuracy score of 51.1%.
– The Jets used eight different defensive formations. The most prevalent were their nickel package with four down linemen (21 snaps) followed by their dime with three down linemen (19). This week in base defense they used more 4-3 looks (16) than 3-4 ones (two).
– A big day for Vellano who has put his early struggles starting behind him. He was on the field for a massive 49 run defense snaps and responded with eight tackles and two assists. Of those tackles six were defensive stops, good for a 12.2 run stop percentage.

08.00 – Bears at Redskins Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Jordan Reed (+4.8), Ryan Kerrigan (+3.8) and Brian Orakpo (+3.0)
– The three lowest graded players were both Jordan Mills and Chris Conte (-4.5) as well as Brandon Meriweather (-4.4)
– Add 10 more missed tackles to the Bears season tally with three of them being for their highest graded player on the day Lance Briggs. They are up to 65 on the year after missing 85 throughout the whole of 2012.
– While Robert Griffin III only threw eight passes over 10 yards in the air, he completed seven of them. He also ended the day (courtesy of five drops) with an adjusted accuracy percentage of 79.3%.
– Even with Jay Cutler going down the Bears still leaned on their three receiver sets. By the end of the game they’d use 11 personnel on 30-of-55 offensive snaps, compared to 10 snaps in 21 personnel and 11 in 12 personnel.
07.30 – Buccaneers at Falcons Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Lavonte David (+4.5), Malicah Goodman (+3.8) and William Moore (+3.6)
– The three lowest graded players were Daniel Te’o-Nesheim (-3.9), Stanley Maponga (-3.4) and Johnthan Banks (-2.7)
– Clear to see where Mike Glennon struggles. When he wasn’t pressured he completed 66.7% of passes and had a QB rating 106.9. When he was pressured those numbers dropped to 36.4% on the completion percentage front and 44.9 on the QB rating. Matching those numbers his grade went from a +3.0 to a -4.2.
– 10 tackles for Lavonte David and every single one of them was a defensive stop. Three of them registered as tackles for loss.
– With the Falcons down their top two receivers Harry Douglas led the team with 26 routes run and a very impressive 5.73 yards per route run. Following on from him Drew Davis ran 22 routes, Darius Johnson 21 and Brian Robiskie just the two.
07.00 – Seahawks at Cardinals Game Notes
– The three highest graded players were Russell Wilson (+4.6) and both Malcolm Smith (+4.5) and Richard Sherman (+4.5)
– The three lowest graded players were Bradley Sowell (-7.3), Nate Potter (-6.9) and K.J. Wright (-4.7)
– This wasn’t a game where the quarterbacks had an easy ride of things. Wilson was pressured on 52.9% of his 34 drop-backs and Carson Palmer had to deal with an even worse pressure percentage of 57.4%.
– What caused this? Well, it didn’t help that Sowell and Eric Winston got beat for 19 quarterback disruptions between them. That was one every 2.8 plays, not even accounting for 11 quarterback disruptions the Arizona guards gave up.
– The flexible Seahawks defense showed a few more 3-4 looks with Bobby Wagner out. They spent 20 of their 31 base defensive snaps in a 4-3 alignment and 11 in a 3-4 front.
