PFF Preview: Jets @ Titans, Week 15

2014-Prev-WK15-NYJ@TENA New York Jets (2-11) team riding a three-game losing streak and a Tennessee Titans (2-11) squad looking to put an end to a seven-game skid are set to clash at LP Field this Sunday. Both the Jets and the Titans fell out of playoff contention early on, yet they’re both looking to ride some momentum into what is likely to be a busy offseason.

For now, the Jets are still searching for their first road win, having failed to secure a victory in their past six trips away from home. Packing a good run game on the road always helps and the Jets happen to have a viable option to handoff to. Despite a forgettable season for the Jets, Chris Ivory has performed well, exhibited by his eighth-ranked rush grade of +6.0. With 45 missed tackles forced (fourth most) and an equally notable 2.62 yards after contact per attempt, Ivory has manufactured an Elusive Rating of 72.0, one of the best produced by a running back through 14 weeks of action.

On the other side of the ball awaits two linemen who have excelled against the run and will be looking to bottle up Ivory. Ropati Pitoitua (+6.0) and Al Woods (+5.5) have stood out in what has been a rather poor Titans run defense. Woods has the 14th-best run grade of all defensive tackles/nose tackles and has accounted for 13 stops while registering a Run Stop Percentage of 9.9%, 13th best. Lining up alongside Woods is the 6-foot-8, 290-pound veteran out of Washington State, Pitoitua. Similar to his defensive counterpart, Pitoitua has the 13th best run grade of all 3-4 defensive ends and has been credited with 15 stops.

Consider Jurrell Casey who has 32 stops and a top 15 Run Stop Percentage of 10.1% at his position, Ivory will battle a capable front this Sunday.

Here are three more notable numbers for each side:

New York Jets

Ryan Quigley – Overall, Quigley has been a Top-10 punter this season, earning a grade of +13.2 (ninth-best).

Eric Decker – When targeting Decker, Jets’ quarterbacks have thrown as many touchdowns as they have interceptions, four.

Sheldon Richardson – Richardson leads all 3-4 defensive ends with a run grade of +19.6.

Tennessee Titans

Derrick Morgan – Out of all 3-4 outside linebackers, Morgan ranks tenth with a rush grade of +10.0.

George Wilson – Wilson (+3.2) is the only active member of the Titans' secondary who has earned a ‘positive’ green coverage grade.

Jake Locker – In last year’s matchup against the Jets, Locker earned a pass grade of +1.9.
