Looking to right the ship, the Kansas City Chiefs will head to Miami Sunday afternoon to face off against an up and down Dolphins team. After falling to the Broncos last week, things hardly get any easier for the Chiefs as they’ll head into Week 3 with a litany of injuries. After losing both Derrick Johnson and Mike DeVito in the season opener, Kansas City may now be without two of their best players, as Jamaal Charles and Eric Berry remain questionable.
The Dolphins will be without free agent signing Knowshon Moreno thanks to a dislocated elbow, but otherwise, will head into their second home game relatively healthy. Miami has a dominant defensive line that should enjoy a favorable matchup against a Chiefs’ offensive line that lost several starters in the offseason. One of the weakest pass protecting units, Kansas City’s offensive line will have its hands full with a front four that embarrassed New England’s starting five in Week 1.
Both clubs have already lost to an undefeated divisional opponent, and though there is still ample time to make up ground, many teams never recover from digging an early hole. 0-3 could be a death sentence in the AFC West, while the Dolphins can ill afford to fall behind in a division with the 2-0 Bills and a team led by Tom Brady. Only one of these teams will get back on track on Sunday.
Kansas City Chiefs
Dontari Poe – Poe leads all defensive tackles with 126 snaps and is second with six defensive stops.
Alex Smith – Often considered a game manager, Smith’s eight deep pass attempts are ninth-most in the league. On those, Smith has three completions with two picks.
Eric Fisher – After showing improvement towards the end of 2013, Fisher has struggled mightily this year, allowing Alex Smith to hit the turf seven times already.
Miami Dolphins
Brandon Albert – A massive upgrade on what the Dolphins trotted out at left tackle last year, Albert has allowed just one hit and one hurry on 94 pass blocking snaps. That’s good for a Pass Blocking Efficiency of 98.3, sixth-best among tackles.
Cameron Wake – He was held without a sack last week, but his Pass Rushing Productivity this year (12.5) slots in at third for 4-3 defensive ends. His +8.9 pass rushing grade is the highest at any position.
Samson Satele – Despite a poor year recently in Indianapolis, Satele has a run blocking grade of +2.8 (fifth best) this year and has allowed just a single hurry through two games.
